In addition to the stylus functionality, Document Signature Capture is now available for HTC Scribe and HTC EVO View 4G via ActSoft – other application developers to follow.

Corporate IT departments will appreciate HTC EVO View 4G is now Sprint Data Link capable. This enhanced security feature enables greater control over the device, while ensuring secure connectivity to corporate network.

Today, Sprint launched “Bubble Mania,” an online video that puts a fresh spin on the flash mob concept. This is the first Sprint online video in 3D – also available in 2D – and documents 10 bubble artists as they surprise an unsuspecting group of children and adults at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

In this video, several incognito park-goers, dressed all in black, create thousands of gigantic bubbles to the great amusement of children and adults visiting the park.

The video showcases the potential of an HTC EVO 3D device and provides inspiration for Sprint users to capture, upload and share their own on-the-go experiences while using 4G speeds.

“Bubbles Mania” can be viewed in 3D by following doing one of the following:

1. Visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gmnw_SY8DLY on your 3D handheld device, such as HTC EVO 3D, and watch the video without 3D glasses.

2. With red and blue/cyan glasses, visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uj_z2bBLEA on any computer, tablet, TV and any other devices capable of viewing YouTube.

3. With active or passive glasses, visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uj_z2bBLEA on any 3D capable computer, tablet, TV and any other devices capable of viewing YouTube.

This video ties in with the video series, EVO 3D: Basics of 3D, which provides a funny look at how to make your own videos in 3D such as “How to Act in 3D,” “How to Direct Animals in 3D,” and “How to Cry in 3D.”

Watch “Bubble Mania” and if it inspires you, create your own. Share your thoughts, feedback and video on YouTube, Sprint Community or Twitter using the keyword, #3Dbubbles.

Well over a year after making its debut, the award-winning HTC EVO™ 4G continues to stay at the top of the charts! Earlier this week, research firm NPD Group announced its new Mobile Phone Track report for the second quarter of 2011 ranking HTC EVO 4G as the number one best-selling Android device and number three best-selling U.S. smartphone respectively. According to NPD Group’s report, Android devices continue to lead the U.S. smartphone market with 52% of new sales during the quarter.

Sprint made history in June of 2010 with the launch of the award-winning HTC EVO 4G, America’s first 3G/4G wireless phone. Packed with industry-leading features, it set first-day and first-weekend sales records for Sprint and was lavished with praise and awards by respected technology and telecommunications media and analysts. Over the past year HTC EVO 4G has been awarded such honors as the prestigious POPULAR MECHANICS Breakthrough Award, CTIA 2010 Best of Show from CNET, LAPTOP Magazine and eWeek and #1 Android phone of 2010 from TheStreet.com.

Just as they did from day one, Sprint customers continue to love HTC EVO 4G's long list of features including the 4.3-inch screen, dual 8MP video camera capable of capturing HD quality and front-facing 1.3MP camera. They also appreciate the HDMI output jack making it simple to start a movie for their children in the backseat of the car with the phone and then connect to an HDTV to finish it when they arrive at home.

America’s Favorite 4G Network

As the first national wireless carrier to test, launch and market 4G technology, Sprint made history by launching 4G in Baltimore in September 2008. Sprint currently offers 4G service in 71 markets in 28 states. For more information, visit www.sprint.com/4G.

HTC EVO 4G is currently available for $99.99 on sprint.com with a new line or eligible upgrade or two-year service agreement, (taxes excluded).

Customers have asked for the ability to remove pre-loaded apps on smartphones and Sprint is working to address it starting with the incredibly popular HTC EVO 3D™. As one of the first wireless carriers to allow removal of pre-loaded apps, Sprint is looking into providing this option on additional devices in the future.

Preloaded Android™ applications on Sprint wireless phones help customers find apps designed specifically for use with their device. Often these apps are optimized for a positive customer experience or they demonstrate the powerful capabilities of a phone. Some customers have asked for these apps to be removable to gain extra onboard storage. Sprint worked very closely with Google™ to develop the ability for these applications to be removed by the users.

“The ability to remove pre-loaded and suggested applications is part of our commitment to maintain open platforms and encourage customers to truly customize their wireless experience,” said Fared Adib, vice president – Product Development, Sprint. “Our strong partnership with Google and manufacturing partners like HTC allows us to give customers even more flexibility on their device. We are looking at how we can do this on more devices in the future as well.”

Some of the apps that can be removed from HTC EVO 3D include Blockbuster, NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile, Qik and Sprint TV & Movies. Apps installed by Google, HTC or those that are core to the device operating system cannot be removed.

Respected media outlets have praised Sprint’s efforts on behalf of its customers:

  • CNET says:  “The EVO 3D is the first Sprint smartphone to offer such capability and without forcing you to hack or root.”
  • MobileBurn says:  “For now though, it looks like Sprint might be your best option to get an Android smartphone sans bloatware.”
  • GottaBeMobile says:  “The fact is, no one likes having precious storage space taken up by junk and what Sprint and HTC have done here is admirable and should be the standard for new Android phones.”
  • UnwiredView says:  “The HTC EVO 3D allows uninstallation of preinstalled apps without needing root access. Let’s hope more phones on more carriers will exhibit this behavior, and soon.”

  • Experience: Sprint offers a proven 4G experience compared to other national wireless carriers. Today Sprint covers 71 markets and we’ll continue to expand across the U.S.

  • Value: Among the top four national carriers, only Sprint offers unlimited 4G plans, at a simple, affordable price.

  • Network: Sprint has more spectrum than any other national carrier for rolling out 4G. What does this mean? The Sprint 4G network will continue to offer you a strong, fast, dependable 4G experience even when the network has millions more users.

Sprint 4G is still the only one of the top four carriers in the U.S. offering 4G, now in 62 markets covering over 80 million people, expected to cover up to 120 million people by the end of 2010. Cities still to see Sprint 4G this year include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver and Miami. With Sprint 4G, you can access the most advanced wireless technology available from nearly a dozen 3G/4G devices including the Overdrive 3G/4G mobile hotspot and the only two award-winning 4G phones in the U.S. today: HTC EVO 4G or Samsung EPIC 4G,all designed to maximize your 4G experience. No other major national carrier – not AT&T, Not Verizon, not T-Mobile – can make these claims.

Sprint is leading a technology revolution with Sprint 4G, enhancing productivity and entertainment on the go:

  • When you download a full length feature film (like “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” or “Avatar”) onto your iPad or laptop (using Hulu or Netflix) it will take anywhere from 15 – 45 minutes to do this with a 3G connection. With Sprint 4G, it typically takes just several minutes.

  • When you need to urgently send a huge (let’s say 10 MB) file for business via your laptop or smartphone, it will take you 10-20 minutes using 3G, it typically takes just a couple of minutes using Sprint 4G.

  • When you need to video conference via your EVO 4G, EPIC 4G or on your laptop using a 4G connection, you can typically expect to experience a nearly seamless video experience in 4G, making remote video conferencing a realistic option. In 3G, it will often be choppy.

  • If you want to take a short video of your kid’s soccer game on your smartphone and send it to your spouse, it could take several minutes to send the file using 3G, it will typically take just seconds using Sprint 4G.

  • If you’re a passenger in a car or in a park and you’re in a hurry to download ‘The Girl Who Played with Fire’ onto your Nook e-reader or iPad, it can take up to 45 minutes using a 3G connection. Using the Sprint 4G network, it will typically take just a few minutes.

  • If you’re a business and you need to receive a high resolution video from a remote site you are monitoring, you will often get it delayed and in grainy quality using 3G, while you’ll typically get it instantly and in high-resolution using Sprint 4G. Transportation companies can access 4G speeds to work towards improving customer experience, help increase customer safety, support on-board marketing, monitor and manage fleet resources and enable wireless transactions. Home healthcare providers can implement higher-quality remote patient monitoring and faster patient data transfer. Public safety professionals can step up to another level in anytime-access to critical information, ability to document incidents, resource management and monitoring.

Getting attention in New York City is not an easy accomplishment.  There is always something happening in the city, and this past week was no exception.  The United Nations was in session.  Fashion Week was in full swing.  The U.S. Open was concluding another championship.  Tough competition, to say the least.

But on Thursday, September 16, a ‘sneak peek’ of Sprint 4G and the allure of blindingly fast network speeds captivated an audience of media, bloggers and industry analysts. The Sprint Executive Briefing Center in midtown Manhattan played host to an event that provided those in attendance an opportunity to experience the power of 4G before the official launch later this year.  On display were the HTC EVO 4G, Samsung Epic 4G, the Overdrive and 4G mobile broadband cards.  Seamless video streaming from both YouTube and ESPN were just a few of the ‘wow’ and ‘now I get it’ moments at the event.

You can check out just some of what they had to say here:

Light Reading

Matt Carter, Sprint’s president of 4G, and Iyad Tarazi, vice president of development and engineering  addressed the crowd and emphasized the ‘game changing’ abilities of Sprint 4G and the ability to deliver for business was on display in the form of the Calgary Health Care Application – ResMD.  ResMD is a medical imaging app developed by Calgary Scientific that allows medical professionals to access detailed 2D and 3D images, including X-Rays, MRI’s and CATscans of patient results on their 4G device.

The day also included a trip to NYC’s ****’s Kitchen for a 3G/4G cell site tour.  The 5-story walk-up didn’t deter media from taking advantage of this unique opportunity and tour courtesy of Tarazi and Viet Chu, manager of RF engineering, 4G performance.

Rave Reviews and Accolades for EVO

Check out what the top tech reviewers are saying about the device.

Walt Mossberg with the Wall Street Journal (sub. req.) says:
"The HTC EVO 4G, when used on Sprint's 4G network, offers the highest consistent downstream data speeds I have ever seen on a cellular network. It also has a number of other strong features: a front-facing camera for video chatting, and the ability to serve as a Wi-Fi hotspot (for an extra fee of $30 a month) that can simultaneously connect up to eight laptops or other devices to the Internet."

Chris Ziegler with Engadget says:

"Let us be crystal clear: we love this phone. Nay, we adore it. ...truly one of the best smartphones ever made..."

Sascha Segan with PC Magazine says:

"...if you live online, the EVO offers a big, beautiful, and powerful window to the world."

"The EVO starts with a world-class 3G smartphone and adds 4G as a "turbo boost" option. If you're an intensive Web user, you'll like it even without 4G."

Bonnie Cha with CNET says:

"Overall, the HTC Evo 4G is, hands-down, the best smartphone that Sprint has to offer and certainly ranks as one of the best Android phones on the market today."

Jessica Mintz with the Associated Press says:

"HTC's Evo 4G phone is fast, powerful and fun to use — as long as your heart isn't set on tapping into the speedier new network it was designed for."

Mark Spoonauer with Laptop Magazine says:

"Even if 4G hasn’t yet reached your neck of the woods, the Evo 4G is a killer device thanks to its zippy processor, huge display, and an interface that makes Android more intuitive and user-friendly. While the keyboard could be better and the battery life longer, the Evo 4G richly deserves our Editors’ Choice award. It’s a no-brainer for Sprint customers, and a tempting choice for those on other carriers."

Matt Buchanan with Gizmodo says:

"It's actually staggering how different the experience is of using a phone that has over 4 inches of display, diagonally, versus more conventional screens, which run closer to 3.5 inches. Even when you're using the same OS at the same resolution—in this case, Android 2.1 with HTC's Sense UI at 800x480, seen on their last few Android phones.

It's kind of like when the jeans you've been wearing forever start to fit a little too snugly because you've been eating a little too well, and you finally cave and buy a bigger pair of jeans, there's a mindblowing moment when you close the button for the first time of how much freedom you suddenly have to breathe. So you kind of hyperventilate."

CNET, LAPTOP Magazine and eWeek gave HTC EVO 4G awards for Best of Show when it was announced at CTIA this spring. It was also recently cited on MobileTechReview’s Best Smartphones and Best Touch Screen Phones lists.

Customer favorites on HTC EVO 4G’s long list of features include the 4.3-inch screen, dual 8MP video camera capable of capturing HD quality and front-facing 1.3MP camera. They also appreciate the HDMI output jack making it simple to start a movie for your children in the backseat of the car with the phone and then connect to an HDTV to finish it when you arrive at home.1 Business customers highlight its super-fast 1GHz processor, simultaneous voice and data capability in 4G or Wi-Fi coverage areas enabling Web surfing and more during conversation, and built-in mobile hotspot for up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices.2

Shredding the airwaves...Sprint's Now Network powers the electronic signage (provided by ICG) at the ultra popular skateboarding event, the Maloof Cup.

You may not realize it. But Sprint’s Now Network is impacting many parts of your life…in many ways you didn’t think possible.

Sprint’s efforts in Machine-To-Machine (M2M) technologies – which means, using wireless and wireline technologies to make devices “talk to each other” directly – have been affecting the way people play, the way businesses deliver for customers and even the way your doctor utilizes the most modern technologies to keep you healthy.

It could be your utility meter sending your usage information to the electric company’s billing database. It could be your e-reader downloading a book from a central bookstore. It could be a digital signboard updating its message from a laptop at the advertising agency. It’s literally that broad. And there’s a reason why Sprint is the most trusted wireless name in business operations. Our partner companies trust the Now Network’s speed, power and reliability to keep their operations running smooth to make your life easier. And we’ve only just begun…the possibilities are endless…but look what we’ve done already.
