Well over a year after making its debut, the award-winning HTC EVO™ 4G continues to stay at the top of the charts! Earlier this week, research firm NPD Group announced its new Mobile Phone Track report for the second quarter of 2011 ranking HTC EVO 4G as the number one best-selling Android device and number three best-selling U.S. smartphone respectively. According to NPD Group’s report, Android devices continue to lead the U.S. smartphone market with 52% of new sales during the quarter.

Sprint made history in June of 2010 with the launch of the award-winning HTC EVO 4G, America’s first 3G/4G wireless phone. Packed with industry-leading features, it set first-day and first-weekend sales records for Sprint and was lavished with praise and awards by respected technology and telecommunications media and analysts. Over the past year HTC EVO 4G has been awarded such honors as the prestigious POPULAR MECHANICS Breakthrough Award, CTIA 2010 Best of Show from CNET, LAPTOP Magazine and eWeek and #1 Android phone of 2010 from TheStreet.com.

Just as they did from day one, Sprint customers continue to love HTC EVO 4G's long list of features including the 4.3-inch screen, dual 8MP video camera capable of capturing HD quality and front-facing 1.3MP camera. They also appreciate the HDMI output jack making it simple to start a movie for their children in the backseat of the car with the phone and then connect to an HDTV to finish it when they arrive at home.

America’s Favorite 4G Network

As the first national wireless carrier to test, launch and market 4G technology, Sprint made history by launching 4G in Baltimore in September 2008. Sprint currently offers 4G service in 71 markets in 28 states. For more information, visit www.sprint.com/4G.

HTC EVO 4G is currently available for $99.99 on sprint.com with a new line or eligible upgrade or two-year service agreement, (taxes excluded).

The creativity and inspiration of country music artist and songwriter Lauren Rainey helped HTC EVO 4G achieve another first.

Launched by Sprint in June 2010, HTC EVO 4G was the first 4G phone in the country. Now it played a starring role in the first country-music video recorded on an HTC EVO 4G.

Rainey’s “Crazy in Love” music video was shot using the phone’s standard settings straight out of the box without enhancements, additional lighting or special effects.

-Lauren Rainey

“I chose to shoot the video on a wireless phone to help set myself apart from other artists as I continue to find new ways to get my music out there. I am so proud of how the video turned out and I’m thrilled that Sprint loved it, too. It shows that anyone, anywhere, can record a broadcast-quality video simply and easily using the HTC EVO 4G.”

-David Owens, Sprint vice president-Product Realization

“We have been impressed with her music, and her passion for Sprint is second to none. She understands how the technology and value from Sprint is different from our competitors. She’s proved that you can take an HTC EVO 4G and use it just as it is to create a high-quality video.”

Lauren Rainey – “Crazy In Love”

Lauren Rainey - Behind the Video

As a former on-air host for Country Music Television’s “Custom Built” and, most recently, a concert tour host for Rascal Flatts, Rainey understands the intense competition in the country music industry. In order to get her music and unique style in front of a national audience she decided it would require new creativity and the use of cutting-edge technology.

“I came up with the concept of shooting the video on the HTC EVO 4G with the help of friends who are creative thinkers, including Bill Filipiak and Jo Hunt from ‘Thinking Bee Productions,’ who shot and edited the video,” Rainey said.

HTC EVO 4G boasts a large 4.3 inch display and 4G speeds that deliver a full, no-compromise Internet and video experience. The smartphone features a handy kickstand built in the back, making it easy to watch videos on-the-go, and two cameras, including an 8.0 megapixel auto-focus camera with HD-capable video camcorder. • HTC EVO Shift 4G's slimmed down features allow for a much more aggressive price point that will bring the power of the Sprint 4G Network to the masses.

  • HTC EVO Shift 4G is an Android-powered smartphone with a slideout full QWERTY keyboard. HTC EVO Shift 4G is using the latest generation and more powerful architecture of the Snapdragon Qualcomm processor, running at 800MHz.  As improvements to processors are made, better performance is achieved, which allows comparable performance to earlier versions of the Snapdragon processor that runs at 1GHz.

  • HTC EVO Shift 4G specs are virtually identical to its competitors, yet HTC EVO Shift 4G is available at an incredibly aggressive price point.

  • HTC EVO Shift 4G offers more navigation options than its contemporaries. It features a full touchscreen with pinch-to-zoom capabilities, a slideout full QWERTY keyboard and a D-pad on the keyboard for easy navigation when the keyboard is in use.

  • HTC EVO Shift 4G is not EVO 2. It is designed to complement the award-winning HTC EVO™ 4G and build upon the EVO brand as the next in line for the EVO family, which allows Sprint to reach an affordable price point. Staying below the $200 price point helps expand the EVO brand to a broader swath of the U.S. population.

  • Sprint offers our customers a variety of form factors, features and price points to choose from based on how they use their device, what they do most often and how much they are willing to pay.

  • Since Sprint introduced 4G in 2008, we have announced 17 4G capable devices – the largest selection over any U.S. competitor. Sprint offers nearly a dozen 4G devices – 3 phones: HTC EVO™ 4G, Samsung Epic™ 4G and HTC EVO Shift 4G, Overdrive™ 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot by Sierra Wireless, and an embedded 4G notebook and 4G netbook and will add MiFi 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot by Novatel this February. No other carrier offers as many 4G-capable devices as Sprint.

  • Experience: Sprint offers a proven 4G experience compared to other national wireless carriers. Today Sprint covers 71 markets and we’ll continue to expand across the U.S.

  • Value: Among the top four national carriers, only Sprint offers unlimited 4G plans, at a simple, affordable price.

  • Network: Sprint has more spectrum than any other national carrier for rolling out 4G. What does this mean? The Sprint 4G network will continue to offer you a strong, fast, dependable 4G experience even when the network has millions more users.

The official debut of Sprint 4G is coming to San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Silicon Valley and other cities throughout the Bay Area on December 28, 2010, but today we bring you the latest installment in the 4G video series.

This video helps demonstrate the many advantages of Sprint 4G, including the variety of devices compatible with the technology.

Here are a few tips for Bay Area residents to use Sprint 4G, especially when navigating through the busy holiday season:

  • Want to send holiday cheers to your loved ones across the country? Access video chat apps, such as Qik or Fring on your HTC EVO™ 4G or Samsung Epic™ 4G phone, to talk face-to-face.

  • Did you find the perfect gift for your significant other but want to stay within your budget? Use Scan Life bar code scanning app on your Sprint phone to find the best prices for your holiday gifts.

  • Want to get out of the city to avoid the hustle and bustle of people buying and returning gifts during the holiday rush? Various navigation apps will help you check traffic with speed and ease and offer ways to avoid congested areas.

  • Healthy eating may be thrown out the window during the holidays, but don’t fret. Get back on track on Jan. 1 with health and fitness apps such as Diet Watcher Cookbook (search for millions of recipes, lists nutritional facts); Fast Food Calorie Counter; Cardio Trainer (training partner for running, cycling, hiking, and other fitness activities); Yoga Trainer Lite; and Exercise TV. Help your mind stay fit, too, with such games as Sudoku and Brain Strain 2 Lite.

  • “Free Wi-Fi Available Here” signs need no longer bind you to the coffee house. With the Overdrive™ 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot by Sierra Wireless, you can connect a laptop or any Wi-Fi enabled device to the Internet virtually anywhere, such as downtown San Francisco, Palo Alto or San Jose, at speeds that are up to 10 times faster than 3G.

  • Looking for a great sushi restaurant for your important client in town? No problem! Use Sprint 4G to instantly find a nearby restaurant with the app OpenTable and book a reservation within seconds.

Posted by RichPesce Nov 22, 2010

Los Angeles has been called the most creative city in the world, and with Sprint 4G - creativity is about to get easier.  The Sprint 4G network - the largest 4G network in the U.S - enables 'super fast' downloads  of pictures and video. Huge files in just a matter of minutes.

4G is about capacity. From the valley, to the canyons, to the mountains and the city - Los Angeles residents and visitors will have 4G coverage where they need it. Check out the latest in our series of Sprint 4G videos and learn about the technology backbone behind 4G, why Sprint is able to service many users at once, and how coverage is strategically engineered for mountains and canyons.  How do you plan to use Sprint 4G?

Sprint 4G is still the only one of the top four carriers in the U.S. offering 4G, now in 62 markets covering over 80 million people (even before Los Angeles launches!) and expected to cover up to 120 million people by the end of 2010. With Sprint 4G, you can access the most advanced wireless technology available from nearly a dozen 3G/4G devices including the Overdrive 3G/4G mobile hotspot and the only two award-winning 4G phones in the U.S. today: HTC EVO 4G or Samsung EPIC 4G,all designed to maximize your 4G experience. No other major national carrier – not AT&T, Not Verizon, not T-Mobile – can make these claims.

Rave Reviews and Accolades for EVO

Check out what the top tech reviewers are saying about the device.

Walt Mossberg with the Wall Street Journal (sub. req.) says:
"The HTC EVO 4G, when used on Sprint's 4G network, offers the highest consistent downstream data speeds I have ever seen on a cellular network. It also has a number of other strong features: a front-facing camera for video chatting, and the ability to serve as a Wi-Fi hotspot (for an extra fee of $30 a month) that can simultaneously connect up to eight laptops or other devices to the Internet."

Chris Ziegler with Engadget says:

"Let us be crystal clear: we love this phone. Nay, we adore it. ...truly one of the best smartphones ever made..."

Sascha Segan with PC Magazine says:

"...if you live online, the EVO offers a big, beautiful, and powerful window to the world."

"The EVO starts with a world-class 3G smartphone and adds 4G as a "turbo boost" option. If you're an intensive Web user, you'll like it even without 4G."

Bonnie Cha with CNET says:

"Overall, the HTC Evo 4G is, hands-down, the best smartphone that Sprint has to offer and certainly ranks as one of the best Android phones on the market today."

Jessica Mintz with the Associated Press says:

"HTC's Evo 4G phone is fast, powerful and fun to use — as long as your heart isn't set on tapping into the speedier new network it was designed for."

Mark Spoonauer with Laptop Magazine says:

"Even if 4G hasn’t yet reached your neck of the woods, the Evo 4G is a killer device thanks to its zippy processor, huge display, and an interface that makes Android more intuitive and user-friendly. While the keyboard could be better and the battery life longer, the Evo 4G richly deserves our Editors’ Choice award. It’s a no-brainer for Sprint customers, and a tempting choice for those on other carriers."

Matt Buchanan with Gizmodo says:

"It's actually staggering how different the experience is of using a phone that has over 4 inches of display, diagonally, versus more conventional screens, which run closer to 3.5 inches. Even when you're using the same OS at the same resolution—in this case, Android 2.1 with HTC's Sense UI at 800x480, seen on their last few Android phones.

It's kind of like when the jeans you've been wearing forever start to fit a little too snugly because you've been eating a little too well, and you finally cave and buy a bigger pair of jeans, there's a mindblowing moment when you close the button for the first time of how much freedom you suddenly have to breathe. So you kind of hyperventilate."

CNET, LAPTOP Magazine and eWeek gave HTC EVO 4G awards for Best of Show when it was announced at CTIA this spring. It was also recently cited on MobileTechReview’s Best Smartphones and Best Touch Screen Phones lists.

Customer favorites on HTC EVO 4G’s long list of features include the 4.3-inch screen, dual 8MP video camera capable of capturing HD quality and front-facing 1.3MP camera. They also appreciate the HDMI output jack making it simple to start a movie for your children in the backseat of the car with the phone and then connect to an HDTV to finish it when you arrive at home.1 Business customers highlight its super-fast 1GHz processor, simultaneous voice and data capability in 4G or Wi-Fi coverage areas enabling Web surfing and more during conversation, and built-in mobile hotspot for up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices.2
