Exciting portfolio of new devices

When will you put together a Premier program that offers real value and respect for customers. 6 years a customer and all I get is b.s. policy and fees. When I need help, all I get is "I'm sorry for the inconvenience" but we're big sprint and only want your money. May I help you with anything else today?
I have 32 pages of printed emails from Dear Dan to prove my statement. Now you two are going to help us, yeah right more useless overhead.
When will the WiMAX network come online, is it still on track for Sept 09? What handsets will be compatible with the new "standard"?
Question for David,
Is Sprint going to be offering any new Blackberry devices this fall?
Thanks,
David Smith
This question is for Mr Owens. Will Sprint get the HD2 or its Android counterpart? Many long-time and loyal Sprint customers on this forum and other forums on the web really want this phone. We believe that it is the iPhone killer and will help propel Sprint forward along with its new any mobile anytime plan and other data plans. Many of your loyal customers feel that our hardware (phone) wants and needs are not being heard and acted upon. Several customers have already decided to go to other carriers (that do offer the types of smart phones that are lacking with Sprint) after years of feeling neglected on this issue. Not only have individual customers come forward for this phone and on this issue, but also some small business owners have as well. So not only is Sprint's individual sector pulling for this phone, but also the business sector as well. I hope that Sprint's fall and 2010 line ups include phones that your customers want and not repeats of newly released phones (i.e. Palm Pixie). Thank you in advance for your response.
David Owens, thanks for taking the time to chat on the buzz web site. I would really like Sprint to get the HD2, it is probably a phone which could for the first time really compete with the iPhone. While it is certainly different than the iPhone it has a great deal to offer the iPhone doesn't and the iPhone has some things to offer this doesn't but all in all I'd rather have this phone than the iPhone. If you review your own forum on this site, you'll find very very very few other topics which have gotten a fraction of the responses that the HD2 has. The HTC LEO/HD2 is possibly one of the best business phones I've seen in ages and it is sleek and stylish enough it will also get a great deal of non business client interest.

Two other things -
1. please get Sprint execs to start reading the buzz forums so they are more in touch with what Sprint clients want.
2. please form a beta group from serious Sprint business clients and or IT support so that you can release phones that are more bug free, attractive to more business users, released to the market while the technology is still fresh and less troublesome for your own clients. I've been told you have an outsourced beta testing team - they miss the obvious time and time again as seen on the first day of release for new phones on this forum, pdaphonehome and ppcgeeks - this would actually help your company make money, I'm not sure why it isn't being explored.
Thank you for your time.

There is a rumor Sprint may get the diamond2 - to be clear - it is about a generation behind the HD2 in technology. The HD2 has a much faster processor, dual LED flash, multitouch screen, a much larger screen ... they are not in the same league. So while the Diamond2 would be an OK phone to offer at the entry level, Sprint would do well to offer a good WM phone as well.
Mr Owens,
I'm sure your going to get a lot of questions or talk in general about getting the HTC HD2. Well, I am another to say so. It will be a GREAT idea to do so. Your last few line ups for Q4 was nice, but I think Sprint is missing the capitalization. When the HTC HERO was first mentioned I was hyped, I couldn't wait. When it was confirmed I was like okay Sprint is finally changing the game and stepping up. Well, like others that think this, the HTC HERO didnt live up to its expectations. HTC HERO for Sprint is a nice phone but alone the design you guys gave it was a taker. I mean you cant go and get a nice phone and then make it similar to something thats already out(mytouch3g). then its no different, only the UI. So if and I'm hoping you guys can pull this off before the year ends or even early as possible in 2010(Q1 hopefully) it would be great! HTC HD2 would be a high end phone. i don't know what Sprint is waiting for, but we have to hop to it. I think its kind of a half job. Okay we have Android now, but look how companies are amping theres. Even the Dragon would be nice with the latest Android and Sense. Whatever one you guys decide off of, if you guys do it would be GREATLY loved. Don't be scared to give it those lovely specs and capacitive and all. I'm sure down the line Sprint will have something but it's now. Cause when Sprint does well, somebody else does better. Go a step ahead so they have something to challenge for. You have great plan but the phones need to match. I'm hoping something will be heard from soon about a killer phone. Customers are willing Mr. Owens.
Along the same thread as a couple of the above couple of posts...
I see that Sprint is hopping on the Android bandwagon, which is awesome. Unfortunately, the technology is based upon an ancient processor in BOTH of the phones. While the other CDMA dog on the block is getting 4 Android devices, 2 with the old processor (to compete with Sprint) and 2 that will blow Sprint's handsets out of the water (Moto Droid and HTC Passion). Sprint needs to stay competitive in the handset realm - release a Cortex A8 or Snapdragon (preferably the latter) based Android phone, stat!
PS Forgot to mention, a 840x480 resoultion screen is pretty much a requirement to stay competitive as far as handsets go as well. There are phones out there... and there are Sprint customers who will buy them ![]()
PPS All of this in a webOS or even WinMo device would probably satisfy a lot of people as well!
Question for David Owens:
This isn't a device question, but rather a question related to the plan/device package. I'd love to get a new cutting edge device, be it a Palm/Android/WinMo7 (whenever those show up). But I have a family plan where I'm the only smartphone. Why is my only family plan option one that requires me to get a data plan for all five phones, when only one phone will ever go online (or use data in any other way... heck, they barely make calls).
At this point the only way I can realistically move from my Treo 700wx to an Android phone is to switch to TMobile or Verizon (both of them have given me reasonable family plan options). Does Sprint plan to change this? I'd love to stay with Sprint, but I can't fathom paying the monthly fees they're requiring simply so I can upgrade one phone.
Thanks.
KSG
Sprint needs to step the ball game up!.
Everyone is moving to the smartphone world. Sprint used to be the TOP company in offering phones. 1st with 3g and they were 1st with Color screen phones and cameras. The Fact that the phone line is not as good as another carrier makes people want to go with another carrier.
People care about DEVICE QUALITY, FEATURES and PLAN COST
Sprint's plans are very good for the services they offer. However When you walk into an AT&T store or verizon you have 50 phones to pick from while sprint has like 15 or 20. That limits the costumers when it comes to options. I agree that sprint should release a powerfull device such as the dragon to STay competitive.. The Beta team is a great idea. some sprint phones just dont work well because they are not manufactured well.
are we sprint costumers really getting a 4g android wimax phone if not or we going to be able to update our hero to 2.0 anytime soon or any new slide full keyboard nice big screen 2.0 android phones soon. that would be perfect
I have the following questions for David Ovens:
How many android devices, if any, (aside from the Hero and Moment) do you intend to launch before the end of the year?
When can we expect updates, OTA or otherwise, to be available for regular android devices and those with custom UIs? And what type of update schedule can we expect in the near future?
Basically, I want to know if Sprint is remaining accountable and playing a part in the update schedule, or if we will be completely at the mercy of HTC.
Question is for David. I hate to bring up the question like this...but...here goes. Verizon just came out with an Android phone running Google's best technology of Android 2.0. Isn't rolling out another Android phone with 1.5 cupcake a little bit anti climatic? I hope to see something along the lines of what Verizon brought to the table before Christmas.
To David Owens,
I was wondering, I beleive that when people are long standing customers with sprint there need to be some sort of perks of having service with Sprint besides just 25% of accessories. I also beleive that customer services training needs to be revamped. I believe, that calls should be more closely monitored and a call should not end until a customers issues have bee truly resolved. How can this issue be resolved without a customer feeling like they may want to switch carriers after 6 plus years of services.
I would like to see Sprint focus on a "quality handset". Pick up an iPhone, then pick up a Droid. Compare the quality of the hardward to any of Sprint's offerings. Build a flagship device around a rock solid piece of hardware with either WebOS or Android. With the huge impact of the handset subsidy on Sprint's P&L wouldn't it make sense to build a quality device that is kept fresh with OS updates and new content so consumers won't feel the need to upgrade annually?
Like several others, I would love to have a replacement for my HTC Touch. For me the primary citeria (not in order of preference) are:
- Windows Outlook compatible
- Able to view/edit .rtf, .doc and .xls files
- >= 3.2" 640 X 480 Touch screen (preferably with 'multi-touch' gestures
- SD slot
- Blue tooth (even keyboard). WiFi [optional], standard USB, and standard stereo phone jack connectivity
- accelerometers
- full-featured web browser
- reasonable 3rd party application sources
That was of little value today. Basically the hard questions go unanswered. And the other questions have simple talking points "We compete well against XYZ". I've been working with Sprint, as I'm an 8 year customer, but I am having trouble staying with them given their current plan pricing.
Hi Mr Owens,
I'm sure you already have seen all the requests for Sprint to carry the HTC HD2 so here's another one. I have been a loyal customer for quite some time and I would prefer to stay with Sprint. The problem I have with Sprint is that they don't carry good phones compared to other carriers. I have four lines on my account and will be adding another soon (family of five!) but unfortunately I do not want to remain with Sprint if I can't get HTC HD2. I need a phone powerful and sleek for both business and personal not a kids phone for texting.
Thanks in advance,
I Agree with everyone else on this site when I say that I too will go to which ever carrier picks up the HD2. I have been with sprint now for 8 years, and have been waiting for a phone like this to come along. Sprint needs to step up and get this phone first, or the will loose alot of long time loyal customers. SO PLEASE GET THE HD2!

So David,
Have you intestigated what an HD2 is? Have you noticed there are about 100,000 hits on your own web site for threads regarding the HD2? You have more hits on your entire buzz website about a phone you don't even offer than any other topic - what does that tell you? While it is great that Sprint is offering my little pony and hello kitty pink pda's to the neglected teenage girl segment that needs PDAs it would be great if you also offered PDA phones to adults who need a real PDA phone like the HD2. If you do get the HD2 please offer the standard model in addition to your customized pink glitter model with the unicorn on the back.
I've been with Sprint for 11 years. My contract doesn't end until 2011. Whichever carrier gets HD2 is the carrier I intend to have in 2010.
Please, please tell me that Sprint is getting the HD2 or compatible phone. I am eligible for an upgrade, but will wait until I see if they get this one. I'm pretty sure if they don't I will be switching to whoever does get it, but don't want to switch because I've been with Sprint for more than 10 years.
