Best Present?

As you might guess, I love wireless technology.  So, come Christmas time, it's time for me to give and to get cool new wireless technologies.  In years past, my favorite gifts have included watches that receive a signal from the atomic clock, (even an ultra-geeky Microsoft SPOT watch

one year), <a href="http://www.brookstone.com/store/product.asp?product_code=588608&wid=15&cid=1501&sid=150102&search_type=subcategory&prodtemp=t2&cm_re=FTRTG588608" target="_blank">wireless weather stations, and of course the Kindle.  This year, I managed to snag a wireless USB missile launcher. (Don't tell the IT department...)

But, I have as much fun giving gifts as I do getting them.

Probably my most appreciated gift of the year was an Airave femtocell for my dad.  He lives on a spit of land that doesn't have very good coverage from any carrier.  But now, thanks to cool wireless technology, he's got 5 bars in his main living area!

The gift I was most excited to give (probably because I'll get to play with it all year long...) was a new LG Lotus phone for my wife.  She's moving on from the Centro.  She's a great candidate for One Click

- not needing a true smartphone, but with a husband who bugs her all the time to get more utility out of mobility.  With a bigger keyboard and display than the Centro, but a thinner and shorter form factor, she now has more usability and more pocketability.

My favorite gifts were to offer people Detroit Lions season tickets. JUST KIDDING! I'm embarassed to call myself a fan, let alone ever own season tickets!

Anyhow, the best holiday gift I got (ever) was my car: got it back in 1992... A word of advise for would-be parents with a 16 year old teenager: you may want to make your kid wait until s/he turns 18 before giving them a brand new car (if you ever do, that is)...unless they're ultra-responsible, and few at that age ever are. I wasn't, but nevertheless, the car still runs like a dream.

Best gift I got this year? Believe it or not, a 10K white gold pocket watch. Totally made the holiday for me, probably because it was a gift from my fiance. And I also got a Detroit Red Wings sweatshirt. And I hooked her up with some nice jewelry (typical eh?): a matching set of ear rings and necklace.

Now, as for best gift possible for Orthodox Christmas (which is January 7th) that SprintNextel could give me? How about an iDEN/WiMAX flip phone for under say...$300? And without requiring any specific rate plan to go with it?!? Heck, if that's too soon of a drop-dead-date, then I can wait until my birthday in May. But can we please get something out already?

So...how'd everyone else do?

I can say the best Christmas gift that I have ever gotten was when I was a child. It was the My Size Barbie, that was about 4 ft tall with waist long hair. I begged my mom for that but she was not to thrilled about the idea. My dad did get it for me that Christmas though and talk about childlike exicitement. I played with that babie for months. I ended up chopping the waist long hair into a bob with bangs.

This years best gift was a nice blouse from Express and a bible with my name embossed with silver lettering.

How about everyone else?

I convinced Santa (my husband) that I needed a kitten.  I got to pick her up from the shelter's foster home on the 26th.

Her name is Natalie and she's a pistol. She gets along great with my dogs and it's fun to watch them play.  I haven't had a cat before so I am in unchartered territory. She's pretty young so I think she's imprinting on the dogs.

With 2 dogs, a cat and a horse, my ark is full.  Time to start hinting for a Nintendo DS for Valentine's Day. :-)
