Some Sprint customers are receiving spam text messages. Some of these messages make it appear as if the message was sent via Sprint because they include SprintFreeMsg working or other use of Sprint brand name in its subject or text. These spam messages are designed to get the customer to take action on the bogus message.
Some things you would like to know:
If you are to recieve a message, do not open the message, delete them. Also, do not call the 800 number or any other numbers provided in the spam message.

Even though there`s probably not much ya can do about it, i would also suggest that anyone gettin` one of these spam messages ya mentioned also report it to the boys at Sprint, if enough of us report it, mabey someone can find and shut down the person(s) sending this junk (at least till they figure a way to get around it and start again). Does Sprint take any proactive steps to block/prevent these types of messages? I'm not fully versed on how it works but I would think it's more complex than one thought based on the available websites that one can go to to send messages anonymously.
Has Sprint ever thought of setting up a short code/phone number that one could forward these Spam/Phishing TXT messages too? This would allow people to report the messages and also prevent the people from calling in to report them. Or is it just not that big of an issue yet.
I remember last year I think, I received close to 100 spam txt messages. I remember seeing people on the internet talking about, they were even able to track down the offending company. Thank god I had unlimited TXT messaging and luckily it hasn't happend again.

FYI for the Sprint folks, I'm not a customer of Sprint, but I did just receive a spam / phishing text message on my cell phone from 73254@messaging.sprintpcs.com
Full text reads: " 73254@messaging.sprintpcs.com / / Your debit/card has been restricted Call at 8772423675 to verify your account "
Senders 'name' was " 3681 "
No sender phone number was listed other than 3681
I've noticed some stupid company called "AirG" has been sending out spam texts to phones (mine being one of them). I wonder why they were even able to get the text through since I have a block on all incoming texts that are NOT on my approved list. Seems a tad odd...I wonder if Sprint a wipe of my account when it comes to texts...if they did, I'm so going to kill this company (not literally...so relax, folks).
On my account on sprint.com, I had a few numbers in the text block list, I got another spam text the other day so I signed in to add that number to the list and it was EMPTY. All those I had set to block had been removed. So from know on I guess I need to keep a log of those I place there And keep closer tabs on the block list.
You and me both, it sounds like need to keep closer tabs on Sprint when it comes to unsolicited spam texts.
Sprint does use anti-spam countermeasures at the messaging gateway levels. Unfortunately some does still get through. It's the same as with email - we work hard to block the unsolicited bulk SMS messages without blocking any 'ham' - messages that should get through.
