ROAMING

I recently went out of town in a rural area and noticed my phone going in and out of service from sprint to roaming so I went to my settings to try and change it to roaming only because it got almost a full signal when roaming but there was no option for roaming only.I know for sprint cost is an issue if I were to roam all the time but my old LG Rumor had the option to roam all the time, why is this not an option on the instinct and can it be added.PLEASE

Re: ROAMING

When I first got my phone, I talked to a very knowledgable CSR who explained that the "Roam Only" option was being removed by Sprint on all new phones. This is because the Everything plans include free roaming, and Sprint doesn't want people to abuse it. Still not sure how this hurts Sprint's bottom line, but it has something to do with the signal sharing agreements Sprint has with other carriers.

This really sucks for people that can't get a good signal and just want to be able to get a temporary lock on a roaming signal. Why can't they do some kind of timeout, like allow roam only for 15 minutes or something reasonable like that?

Re: ROAMING

I would think a button on the call screen that says "Force Roaming for Duration of Call" would be adequate. My drive to and from work has a 5 mile window where I could or could not have cell reception until the phone goes to roaming. This stretch of road is also the most dangerous for me with frequent car accidents occuring during the winter months.

Sprint, is this possible?

Mark

Re: ROAMING

I have the same problem. Itoo wouldlike to lock the phone onto roam occasionally as I freq. travel through rural areas that sprint only has broken service in. This would help stop some of the dropped calls I experiance. I was dissapointed to see that was not an option on my instinct. It always had been on my other phones.

Something like a "Roam for duration of call" as previously mentioned would be awesome! As it is now, I sort of regret renewing my contract for another 2 yrs, when I could have gone with Alltel, who provides somewhat better service in my area. Oh well, it is what it is I suppose.

Re: ROAMING

the only reason why spint is starting to take of the roam only feature from phones is becasuse when a subscriber roams or uses another carriers towers for example a sprint customer roaming on verizon network, that sprint has to pay verizon money for them mins that were used i think it was like 3 cent per minute idk but anyways sprint is tryning to avoid by all means owing other people money which they already are in now.also anotherr thing was that word got around that if you roam too much with in a couple months time that you were dropped from your contract and i do think that alot of sprint people were doing just to avoid the $200 etf. and at this current position that sprints in that theycannot afford to lose more customers nor owe money to another carrier.

Re: ROAMING

I was wondering why I did not see that on my phone. Is this a hardware thing or what ?If not than we need to petition them to put roam only on these phones.

They need to stop being greedy

better yet they need to go out of business

uh i so regret signing another contract with these people.

I've had the same problem and posted it under rumor2_roaming.  Maybe Sprint will listen to us.

Re: ROAMING

The bottom line of removing this feature is for the company to save money, which in these times everyone is looking to save money regardless if you are the owner of a small business to even the most popular banks that are bankrupt and borrowing money to stay afloat. Everyone wants to save money....If Sprint is able to save money with a limitation on  Roaming then Sprint is able to past the savings to the customers, that is why Sprint plans offer so much more for so little. Sprint's plans are at least $10.00 cheaper than comparable plans with other carriers. I understand the need to have service in case of an emergency, but all phones no matter where you are can dial 911!

Re: ROAMING

You missed the point-I live 40 or 50 miles from the sprint tower-at night i get a sprint signal that is not strong enough to make or recieve call on-During the day my phone stays in roam because it doesn't receive that weak sprint signal-radio waves travel further at night but are not stable-I can cover the top of the phone with my hand and it will switch to a roam signal to make a call-I'll check and see if it will make a 911 call when it happens again-I don't think it will-But without a roam only feature I am without service because the signal is not strong enough to make or receive a call-just strong enough to keep the phone from switching to roam-I am going to have to return this phone and go back to my original LG Rumor which had a "roam only" feature if the software can't be updated to include a roam only feature-Welcome to the wide open spaces of Texas-It's 50 miles to a town of any size.

Re: ROAMING

By the way-When my phone connects to the sprint tower tonight with a weak signal that won't make or receive a call-if I call 911 and it won't make the connection it becomes an FCC problem and Sprint would be liable if a 911 emergency were to occure and the "roaming only" feature was not available to make a connection.  Once aware of the problem it becomes "neglience".

Re: ROAMING

Just tried 911 no conection=turned my LG Rumor on same Sprint tower with same reception-Old Rumor has "Roam Only" Roumor2 does not-This is not progress-I have to set on my Roumor2 to keep it in roam to get phone calls-Hope I don't get prostate cancer from the EMF of having to set on the phone-Sprint would have to pick up the bill-Such a simple problem to fix-LG Rumor  H/W version 1.2-LG Rumor2 H/W version 1.0-Been a pilot for years="Never fly the "A" model of anything
