In some instances it read something like, "...updates to work with Android 2.0" while other apps simply read "...update to version..."
Could this be Android 2.0 is getting pushed out?
Yes Android 2.0 is getting pushed out today!...on the Verizon Droid
That's probably just developers releasing updates to either take advantage of 2.0 or to fix things that broke in 2.0.

Remember that these apps are available on all Android phones, including the Moto Droid which releases today.
The Android 2.0 developer kit was released about a week ago and developers have been busy updating their apps so that they are compatible with the latest OS version.
Has nothing to do with our handsets.
Actually, it has a lot to do with our handsets and the apps no longer working. I've updated several in the last few days that no longer work under 1.5. ![]()

I haven't run into that.
I've had to uninstall and reinstall apps a couple of times when the "Update" function borked something, but I haven't found anything that simply doesn't work anymore.
Apps not working or borking after upgrade have nothing to do with 1.5. If the app requires more than 1.5, you won't see it in the market.
Apps breaking after upgrade has to do with a bug that the Hero (and only the Hero) has with upgrading/installing after an uninstall.
Is this why voicemail tells me there's an update, then never updates.? It also shows I have a new voicemail, but when I call my voicemail, there are no new messages.
Fix:
Voicemail -> Settings -> Check for upgrade.
You need to allow application installations from unknown sources in order for this update to install (Settings -> Applications -> check Unknown sources).
I just got my Hero and had the same message pop up when accessing vm. I figured out you must have to allow unknown source installations, but was not sure this was safe so I have not done the update. Am I to assume that if an app such as vm says there is an update that it is ok to use an unknown source? I'm new to the smartphone coming from a razor and don't want to mess things up on the phone.
Thanks!
Yes it's safe. Remember, its an android phone and by default it thinks you should be downloadiing and installing everything from the "Market." So anything installing outside that source raises a flag.
I did the update with no problem...thanks!
