The HTC Eris being released on Nov 6th is basically the Hero with a slightly different body. I had the Hero for 3 weeks and posted alot of feedback, but my coverage stinks and I'm staying with "Big Red"... ![]()
I really liked the Hero and the Sense UI. However, I'm REALLY afraid that the HTC Eris will have all the same bugs as the Hero... mainly headphone static and the pathetic camera...(and others).
There are NO reviews out there for the Eris (except specs)... what does every one else think? Think the Eris is going to be plagued with all the Hero bugs?
Good question. Please - post links to reviews, your experiences with the phone. Be neat to see. We welcome the competition and the information; it'll help make our products better.
HTC Eris Review compared to my 3 week Hero ownership
No testing with Exchange sync as I dont use it. Everything else appears to work exactly between the Hero and Eris.. some lag here and there... sometimes doesn't want to "wake" up here and there (needed to hit red "on" key 2-3 times once or twice (prob lag issue...?)
Verizon appears to have installed "Advanced Task Killer" somewhere hidden. The sales rep did something in the notifcations window and it popped up asking to kill all apps... I cant do it, so'll I need to call and ask.
So, I'm not sure how much of this is helpful, but I think for the most part, once the Hero gets a patch, I think things will be much better for Sprint users.
Firmware: 1.5
Baseband Version: 2.32.00.09.26
Kernal Version: 2.6.27-e850bba0
Build and Software: 1.12.605.1
Hardware Version: 0002

Also preliminary reports say there are no "dust in the screen" issues. Can anyone confirm that HTC and Sprint have never done a device recall? I've been told that this was an issue with another device on Sprint and the manufacturer acknowledged the issue and said there were investigating, but all that was done is that the manufacturing issue was fixed and "early adopters" were left out in the cold. Just curious if anyone has any information to the contrary.
Thanks for your time
The whole "dust in the screen" issue is probably Hero design only. Since the Hero has that floating control plate, it leaves that unsealed crack between the glass and panel.
The Eris is a sealed solid design.. no floating panels.

That totally makes sense (although they still could have issues with the gasket). I'm more concerned about what they are going to do about it (if I somehow end up keeping the Hero). In watching other forums, most people believe (based on past experience) they will have to do an insurance replacment and hope to get a "newly manufactured device" that fixes the issue.

Does the Eris seem to have the clock widget issue where it displays a different time than the lock screen or the notification bar time?

Here is an interesting (high-level) review of all 3 "Hero's". Positives & Negatives to each version of the device. Thought some people in this thread might want to compare and contrast.

Additonal Hero --> Eris bug comparison
Doesn't Eris come with a 8gb micro SD card?
Yes it does.
Wow $99 and a 8gb card... That would have been nice.
Yes, up front... however, I'll be paying close to $1000 more over the life of my contact then Sprint. I would have liked to keep my Hero, but my rural coverage wasnt the greatest.
If you go to Walmart you can get the Eris for 49.99 on contract.
Not that I am promoting to leave Sprint I love Sprint but for anyone wanting to jump ship that is a **** good price.
Woooooow 49.99! now that is a deal! not that im leaving ive been with sprint for 10 years now and i get a great corporate discount and sprint does have some of the best price ranges for plans out there so i wont be going anywhere. I was on cnet.com earlier and noticed that the Sprint hero was rated at 4 stars when it was first reviewed and now that the Eris is out the review for the Hero has been lowered to 3 and one half stars. whats up with that? how can you lower your review when it is just repackaged and on another network. that makes no sense to me.
