Were on the same page. I actually owned the hero for about two weeks but I ended up returning it becasue the trackball wasn't working too good. I really did like the phone but I'm waiting to hear if they will have a new android phone before christmas. The Hero is really a good phone and probably would get it again if nothing comes out. The only thing I don't like about it the camera without flash.

With the Hero now patched its even a better phone... I love it now, will love it even more after 2.0... I'm sure it will sustain my needs until the next generation of Android phones come to market... The question is are the Dragon Phones powerful enough to be considered the next generation... I don't think so... when the Hero no longer is powerful enough to efficiently run the newest generation of Android then I'll look for its replacement. Until then I don't think the minimal amount of performance gains justifies the expense of replacing my beautiful Hero!

NOTE: As you read my above thoughts... keep in mind the current Android timeline... Will the G1 be capable of upgrading to 2.0? If not then Android's first phone's useful life was one year!

I agree with tshaw'. With the update (and pending 2.0), I'm extremely satisfied w/my Hero. Tshaw' also brought up a great point with the G1: If it's unable to run 2.0, then the life of that handset was a year, but will be curious to see how the Hero does. I think w/HTC throwing a lot at the Hero (Sense UI), and of course the pending 2.0 update, I think we'll be in better shape as for as longevity goes.
