<<sorry.. posted this in "android discussion" not "Hero by HTC" - by accident>>
anyone else having this problem??
i just tried to use my voice dialer and its not working!
when i say its not working, i mean it doesn't acknowledge my voice - it just stays on listening
it turns on, but never does anything
i don't use the voice dialer much, but i would like to use it more - but i can't now
i kinda want to keep this phone - i don't want to turn it in (not as in, quit the hero - i mean i want to keep this PHYSICAL cell phone, i don't want to replace it)
can anyone suggest a solution?<
My experience is little different.
It gives me a list which has no resemblance to the name I call.
And with Indian name.........it seems to have no clue.
I likes my Chocolate phone where I could train the voice and use it to make a call.
Mine hasnt worked since the MR update in November.
yup, mine never worked either.....just keeps listening and listening.
Mine too. Almost never works. Just keeps listening and listening. My RAZR handled this and BT beautifully.
I just checked mine and it works as well as it always has - which is to say, not very well. But it does work. I should note though, that in testing it months ago it responded much better to my wife's voice then mine.
I think that a discussion re the abominable Voice Dial app in the HTC Hero by Sprint is important! However, I have read all of the posts which are all the "same". Where are the answers from Sprint since this is a Sprint app not an android app which does not exist. I have been a Sprint Premier client for many years, but all I get are sales messages. No solutions!
I have had the same exact issue, the voice dialer just keeps on listening, and when it does actually get what I'm saying, it is completely wrong. I just dont even try anymore that "app" or "program" was a complete failure! I had it on my Instinct before and it worked almost flawlessly! I do know the google search voice, works most of the time! So I know its that program not the phone!
Actually, this is an official Android app. Sprint and HTC had no part in its creation. When we get the update to 2.1 it will probably be a lot better. For now, try to learn how to speak to it. Be as clear and concise as possible. I wish it would work as good as voice search.

I'm not sure where you are getting your information, as this is definitely NOT an Android app. I agree that the Voice Dial app on the HTC Hero from Sprint, is not an HTC app. However, after much research on my part with both HTC and Sprint, I learned that this definnitely IS A SPRINT APP. Why Sprint changed the Voice Dial app from those in previous Sprint phones, i.e. the Samsung Instinct, which worked very well, continues to be a mystery, to all of the Sprint technical support with whome I have spoken. Since this is a Sprint discussion forum, I think that it is about tjme that we heard from Sprint Support(?).
Well, I don't know where you are getting your information, but I had this app on my G1. It looked and functioned the EXACT same way. I highly doubt Sprint changed it, because there would be something different about it. If I remember correctly, it never worked very well on my G1 either. Sorry, but this isn't Sprint's fault. Sprint only made their normal navigation, tv, nfl, and nascar apps. Oh and a visual voicemail app. The rest are either HTC or stock Android. I would look for better information next time, because I know that I am right, as I have been with Android longer than you.
I found a great app that works better. It's called Choice Dialer. There's a free version with more features than the stock one, and a $3 version that also has commands for music and reminders and such. Check it out. Also there are settings for when it decides to do an action without confirmation. It uses a decent amount of memory, so you may have to turn off the features you don't use. I stopped using the Sense homescreen for a modified normal homescreen, so I have a lot more memory to work with. Hope this helps.
