is it possible to disable notifications from the stock SMS app if using Handcent?

yes, easily. After you install Handcent you open the OLD messaging app and un-check/disable the notification box then go to Handcent and check/enable notifications and reboot the phone.

 

If you have this problem of all your texts going to one thread then cancel ALL "email to text" type notification from places like BofA, NextAlram, LinkedIN and such, Then "Restore" the phone to like new (Beleive it or not, if you use the paid MyBackup Pro app this is super EASY!) then IMMEDIATELY after your phone comes back up in it's pristine/like new state with you google contacts you send individual text messages to EVERY contact you usually send texts to and you will have created a thread for each of them that will hold up even if you do get a corupting message again from an unknown source.

 

I did this and have had no issues since.
