Sprint and their insurance policy needs to GO !!

Why can't I add insurance on my phone knowing that I took it off ?? Once I took it off my insurance the representative did not explain to me why I wouldn't be able to have insurance on my phone anymore therefore I believe I should add insurance back onto my phone and keep it that way. The only reason why I took it off because I thought nothing would happened to my phone and as a month or two passed by I thought to myself that I should have insurance on my phone just in case anything happens to it this year or the following year just to make sure.  There was no policy that anyone gave or read to me why my phone can't have insurance once I took it off. I did talk to the supervisor before and I told her since I am a sprint customer I myself or anyone in general should add insurance on their phone whenever they wanted. I think this is complete BS because I did not see anything in SPRINTS policy about the insurance nor did the representative explain to me why I can't have it anymore. So I believe I should be able to have insurance on my phone again.

I apologize that you were not made aware of the fact that you cannot add the insurance back onto the device after removing it. Unfortunately, our insurance plans are admistered by a third party insurance company and like all insurance policies, it is hard to add full coverage back on once it is removed. This is true of your car, which requires an inspection before they allow full coverage (if at all), healthcare in the form of 6 month waiting period for a gap in coverage, and unfortunately of phones as well.

I want to take the opportunity to tell you that in August we offer open enrollment for insurance on devices that currently do not have it. The decision is above my pay grade for me to guarantee the program will be in place come august of 2012, but I do not see why not. I also want to inform you of the Equipment Replacement Program (ERP) and the Equipment Service and Repair Program (ESRP). As of this posting, the cost of these are $5 and $4 per month respectively. ERP covers lost, stolen and damaged devices where as the ESRP covers defective devices. Unfortunately, both programs are offered by Asurion and cannot be added after the fact but in the future you can downgrade to one of these to save some money over the Total Equipment Program (TEP) which includes both ERP and ESRP at $9.00 per month.

For more information about the insurance programs visit sprint.com/TEP

    Best Regards, -T.

I should also let you know that if your device is less then a year old you can make a warranty claim directly from the device manufacturer.

There are other ways of insuring your phone. Best Buy offers an insurance plan for your phone. It does not cover lost or stolen phones however.
