Automating Voice Mail access

Hello all;
I am a new Nextel customer and am enjoying the service so far.
I do have one question: When accessing my voice Mail through the menu, The phone dials a pre-programmed number, and I am then required to enter my password, and press "1".This is but one more un-needed distraction, esp. when driving. My phone is a Motorola i560.
Is there a way to edit this number, and add the necessary pauses and the password so that I can get to my messages without all the extra keystrokes?
There is nothing in the User manual about this, with the exception of instructions on adding pauses. So, to experiment I added that number to my contacts, and tried adding two pauses and the password, and everything works fine until my phone transmits the password. The system responds with an "invalid password" message and I then have to enter it manually.
My old Cingular phone (Motorola V551)was able to do this perfectly, although the solution was nowhere to be found in the Owner's manual either. I happened on it by accident one day.
Hopefully someone out there has the same wishlist as me and knows the answer. Thanks in advance if you do!!!

    Two options

    1) Disable the voicemail from prompting for a password when dialing from your own cell.

    2) Add another contact entry that dials your own phone number, adding the pauses and keystrokes in that.  Most phones allow the "pause" options when inputing a phone number for a contact.  Assign this new contact to a different speed dial.

    Hope that helps.

If it will allow the input, try using a comma as a pause.

The password prompt I believe is in option 3, option 1, then option 1 while within the voicemail system.

I apologize for the misinformation, but there most certainly is an option to skip your password.  Once you're in the voicemail system, listen to the menu.

    Option 3 - Settings
    Option 1 - Personal Options
    Option 1 - Skip Passcode

    Assuming you're on Sprint.

Yeah, there really is no option to disable the password prompt on a Nextel phone. I remember being really frustrated by it, too. iDEN hasn't offered that ability since at least pre-merger, probably due to security concerns, but maybe just due to general shortsightedness.

As for your phonebook entry + preprogrammed password solution I used to do that very thing, and got it to work very well on an i860, so I imagine it's possible on your i560. Make sure you're putting the right number of pauses in I'd experiment with one more or one less "P" and see what happens.

If that doesn't work, try hunting in your phone settings menu for an option possible labeled "DTMF tones" or something to that effect. This is the menu option that controls the length of the dual-tone multifrequency "bleep" you hear when you press a key when you're on the line. Your options should be "short" or "long." Select "long" and see if that doesn't clear up your issue. If there is no such menu option, then you may be out of luck.

I have a question on voice mail on CDMA, is there a way to check your voice mail without dialing the actual phone. Basically I have a mother that wants to check her sons voice mail with out him being aware that she is calling it. So i thought maybe there was an 800 number or something that you can call to check it.

To listen to you voicemail from another phone (land line, other cell phone etc):

    1. You will dial your mobile phone number.

    2. Then you will presss * (star) when you hear the greeting and enter in your voicemail passcode.

***if you do not know this you may chat or call into care to get this reset or login to your account on sprint.com and go to Settings and

             Passwords then to Voicemail Passcode

3 You will then have access to your voicemail's

    Hope this helped...
