Now that the Instinct HD has been announced (not formaly by sprint) however phonenews has an exclusive on the device w/ the specs on the software
http://www.phonenews.com/instinct-hd-preview-sprint-titan-loaded-opera-mobile-deal-samsung-8760/
My big question is, this new instinctHD software will this be our mr-7 (less the HD, and wi-fi, I'm talking more on the Titan platform)? I like in the article that they are not calling the isntinct a smartphone anymore. If I do not see my instinct at least fixed soon, im going to be ****** especially when I though my phone was a smart phone (it was when I purchased it atleast).

Images leaked. Much improved, but still too little too late....Im still on the Hero bandwagon! http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Exclusive-images-of-the-Samsung-Instinct-HD-article-a_6628.html
I'm not as salty on the original Instinct as many others, if Instinct HD is the true next gen, get rid of the stuff I dont like, keep what I do, and add more groundbreaking features then it is InstinctHD all the way for me!!
I completely agree with this. I waited on getting the Pre to see if they truly were improving upon the Instinct 3rd quarter. The HD sounds like my favorite features and then some.
My initial question still hasnt been asnwered. Will we see some of these changed on the original instinct?
Sarah? Will?
We don't even have a firm scoop on MR-7. Or the music player version. You think we know what we're putting on a phone that we can't even say if we're releasing yet? And if we'll backport those features to the standard Instinct?
Come on now . . .
If we *a*, knew and *b* could talk about it you know we would.
Will,
I appreciate you posting. I still can't believe you guys are in the dark about MR-7 when many Instinct customers are so ready to bail on this phone because of the lackluster maintenance releases and the music player foul up. It amazes me that you guys take so much of our complaints, when its not personally directed at you, Sarah or anyone else. Just the guys developing the phone and their bosses who didn't go the extra mile for quality.
I hope you guys understand we appreciate what you guys do in getting answers. Don't ever take my or other postings too personally. I'm just upset that Sprint's higher ups didn't do more to take care and nuture the Instinct. Its just frustrating.
I really do hope MR-7 gets here soon as possible. The Instinct customers deserve so much better.
Sorry WIll, I assumed that somone at sprint had released the information to the folks over at phonenews and it was now what you could call "De Clasified" information. I know when they announced the s30, the "updates" and i use that term verry sparingly were then reported to be released to the original instinct via. MR-6 which was horid and really messed my phone up.
I think i have given my phone a fair try, and its been more than a year and I still can receive my e-mails because my e-mail is messed up, the music player is sub par, and the only app on my phone that is useful is mycast which doesnt work correctly anymore because the GPS function is screwed up. I just want to have everything in one device, is that to hard to ask?
The only things keeping me with the phone is the visual voicemail, which i dont think i can ever go back to regular v-mail again, the soft keyboard which i really do like.
Again my frustration is not at you or Sarah personally because you only can relay what you are allowed to. I just dont understand the purpose of this forum if everything is in the dark, that defeats the whole basis of the online community.
So now that both MR-7 has been released and instinctHD is a week or so from release. Are we going to get the updated instinctHD software? or is sprint going to forget about the original instinct and the piece of junk it really turned out to be? MR-7 did nothing to fix some big issues. I still have no album art, the shuffle function still sucks, and i still have the OWA password issue. I dont want to have to buy a new phone just to have it work correctly, however, that is my biggest reason for not getting a new phone, I have 0 trust in sprint.
dude! the HD's firmware will not be ported to the Instinct/s30 and even if it were, do you not realize that the HD is gonna be a hot mess just like Instinct and s30. the same **** Brew OS with "tweaks" is all that will be different and as far as those of you contemplating buying the HD for $199.......just dont say that you werent warned! the HD should only be in the $99-$129 price range at the very most. $199 is a total ripoff, especially with the Hero weighing in at $179
One thing I've noticed about Samsung is that they don't publicize the CPU or clock speeds for many of their phones; makes it a little hard to compare with other devices. They do produce their own microprocessors. One example I could find is the Samsung Omnia II, featuring the Samsung S3C6410 800MHz processor.
I could not find anything official on the internet revealing the performance of the original Instincts, but reportedly their processor has been clocked around 200MHz. Also I could not find any performance data on the CPU for the new Instinct HD.
HOW DOES THE INSTINCT COMPARE WITH REAL SMARTPHONES?
1. If you go to HTC's website, you will find that the Hero comes with a Qualcomm MSM7525, clocked at 528MHz. The HTC G1 (T Mobile) has a MSM7201A CPU, also 528MHz.
2. Palm Pre's CPU is a 600 MHz Texas Instruments OMAP 3430 (ARM Cortex A8 + PowerVR SGX) underclocked to 500 MHz.
3. Original iPhone and iPhone 3G: 620MHz Samsung 32-bit RISC ARM 1176 JZ(F)-S, underclocked to 412MHz.
4. iPhone 3GS: ARM Cortex-A8 833MHz, underclocked to 600MHz.
LOOKING AHEAD, the Instinct HD will have a processor with performance at least 400MHz or better. My question is, how likely is it that our undperpowered M800 and M810 Instincts will be able to take advantage of any software enhancements designed for the much more powerful HD? We're stuck with our buggy slowpokes, I fear.
drdrr,
Good review of processors. I think the HD will most likely be at least 400MHz. There is no way any software could be matched to the M800 or M810 given the hardware limitations. I still think the largest thing holding it back was in the post above yours...the OS and support will be terrible. It does make me yearn for a much faster processor for my future Hero though. When my 12 months is up Oct. 11, 2010, I am sure we will see 1GHz processors in phones.
thanks mmark27, my main point in bringing up relative CPU performance is to help clarify why the Instinct HD software cannot and will not ever be reverse engineered for the original Instincts.
In my next handset, I am looking for robust performance; I will carefully assess if the hardware and software combination is up to the task.
I am very curious whether the Instinct Q will be equipped with one of the latest and most powerful Samsung processors, similar to the Omnia II. If so, that combined with the Android implementation and AMOLED screen could tug me in that direction.
I agree with troyboytn $199 is a ripoff I saw on phone dog that best buy will be selling at $99-$149. Nothing official about the price from sprint yet. But that seems a more fair price than $199.

Im sick of hearing this cpu B.S.
Lets take a few minutes and step back.
So you are telling me that just because a piece of equipment is slower that it cant run an O.S.? Try telling that to the original iPhone owners, they ahve seen several updates and all those updates have been passed down to the original. Now if the new 3gs is 50 % faster than the 3g, what does that make the original iPhone?
Im sure the same thing goes to the old windows mobile phones that are a few years old that will be upgradable to winmo 6.5
Or how about in the PC world. I installed a copy of windows XP pro on my old school 566mhz IBM laptop that had 32 megs of ram. It still ran fine.
So stop comparing to faster CPU's it doesnt matter. THis is now a matter of customer satisfaction in branding. The new OS should be made backwards compatible to the original instinct because you will never see another app applicable to this phone once the HD comes out with the new BREW / Titan hybrid OS. Samsung and Sprint need to take the time and allow this new O.S. to be handed down to the older instincts.
