You can't get a cell phone with bad credit. There is plenty of that in America these days.
Sprint has their unlimited, pre-paid with Boost. AT&T has now come out with an unlimited, pre-paid voice and text only for $60 a month. Sorry AT&T, you are $10 higher per month with less features than Sprint/Boost.
Is pre-paid the future?.

True enough there, but i think the feuture will not be prepaid like we know it now, it will be more like what Einstein Wireless (a regional carrier in this part of the country) does, what they offer is service without a contract or credit check, basically month-to-month service (Sprint has a month-to-month plan too, but it`s just one plan). So i think the feuture here is more month-to-month in addition to regular prepaid...contracts are gonna be really passe soon IMHO. N9NRA
True one option is Sprint/Boost which uses the Nextel/IDEN network. The other option is Sprint/Virgin Mobile which uses the CDMA network. Virgin Mobile plans match the AT&T Unlimited minutes/text plan at $59.99 and you can add 50MB data for $10 more. The problem here is phone selection; it appears that the most feature rich device available is the LG Rumor 2 for $130.
I just love my Sprint Blackberry Tour and plan. But, I have a backup phone that is a pre-pay with another carrier. For voice only I can add a $25 refill which is good for 90 days. M2M is unlimited or $1 per day and 10 cents a minute.
If I had bad credit and couldn't get a post paid cell phone or if I were picking chit with the chickens, my pre-pay backup would cover my basic needs.
The other form that prepaid could take in the feuture is kinda like what they do in Europe, they "default" so to speak, to selling prepaid units as apposed to this country, where we "default" to a contract type setup (selling postpaid units and contracts where possible instead of prepaid), in fact, from what i`ve seen it seems like prepaid is almost a "second-class citizen" in the cellullar world, think...ya wanna have a contract rather than a prepaid. I will say that prepaid has some advantages over a contract any day, and i firmly believe the feuture will be more on the order of a "side-by-side", with prepaid and contract-based handsets being treated as the same, want a prepaid unit? here ya go, just buy this ammount of minutes and get the unit ether for free or at a reduced rate, just like they do now with a contract-based unit. In fact that setup wouldn`t chang at all, just the way prepaid is sold would, and i also believe the feuture of prepaid will finally get rid of those silly refill cards, no more having to enter a horrenduously long PIN number to activate your minutes
! Just once call, and pick how much airtime ya want each month and it`ll be there. N9NRA
