I'm not posting to complain about my Hero, in fact I love it. But I do feel bad for everyone that is having issues and Sprint's lack of a response.
I suggest people contact http://consumerist.com/ tips@consumerist.com They are owned by consumer reports, and usually get results when they post a story. Email them, include links to here and other forums and maybe they will run something about Sprint's lack of response.
Please don't bite my head off
Or call me a spammer
I'm just offering a suggestion.
Not quite sure what you're talking about - lack of a response.
We've acknowledged the reported issues. We've worked closely with the community to document and define some of the issues.
We're working on solutions.
We cannot comment (never have) on a date for a release for the fixes.
Have we missed any issues?
Well you still advertise it with a stereo headphone jack and a battery time which is a lie. Ok I'll go into 3 different sprint stores today , let the reps pitch it to me. If they say it is a stereo head phone jack and if they don't tell me about the issues. That alone is worth a letter to the consumerist. I'll let you or them know how I make out today..
@Kice - Are you using a stereo headset or stereo headphones? If you use a stereo headset with a mic, the Hero's stereo output works just fine, I know mine does...
You have to read through the threads before you go off complaining about problems with the device.
Way to miss my point wafowler4. Does the web site say I have to use certian type of head phones? I'm using Shure Se530's. When I go into the store today (with full audio recording gear in tow) They will tell me I have to use special headphones right? Well if they do I'm sorry to have waste everyones time.
Well the marketing materials on Sprint's websit says 'music capable' and HTC's Website says '3.5 mm audio jack'
Both of those statements are true. I doubt the customer service reps will know the difference, which is a problem - but that is hardly a Sprint-specific problem (have you ever been to a Best Buy? I go there for fun just to quiz their reps, they know NOTHING). I'm not defending it, all I am saying is that Sprint is not lying and if you do a little research, the phone will do exactly what you want when paired with the right headset.
I mean, I'm sure you did lots of research before you purchased $400+ Shure earbuds...lol
Yeah I went nuts on the Shures. I only use them home on my mixing board and long trips. Again I am %100 happy with my Hero. 300 hr up time 46 hr awake time. No issues here. I just posted the consumerist suggestion for the others that are not so happy. Sorry.
I see what you are saying, and I even agree with most of it.
There are major problems with accuracy among customer service reps. I was also disappointed that I could not use my 'modest' Sony MDR-EX55LP's that I used to use with my iTouch...but I am also very happy with the Hero and it does not make sense to carry around both when the Hero can serve as a media player, so I had to make a switch...
I just want to encourage people to search through the threads and make sure that if they are going to file a complaint, that it is warranted...and I'm sure those who would like to make complaints are glad you passed the info along.
None of us would be on here if we did not believe, in some way, that Sprint will read the discussions and take care of the problems.
You realize that the stereo headphone thing is just a software bug, right? It's a pain in the ****, but if you use a little widget:
http://code.google.com/p/toggleheadset/
and manually change the icon to a headset rather than headphones, your headphones will be in stereo. It will work with your fancy Shures. It works with my fancy Ultimate Ears.
What is an even more annoying bug is that if the phone boots with headphones attached, it will *never* auto-switch between headphone/ headset connected and not. You *must* boot the phone with nothing in the 3.5mm jack.
