Having seen the Palm Pre come out with a few applications (and more on the way) and then more recently having seen the HTC Hero come out (with an app store), I am wondering if there will ever be anything for the Instinct phone? Everytime I see an advertisement somewhere for a mobile phone app, it always states that it's available ONLY for the iPhone or Blackberry (and occassionally an Android-based phone like the HTC Hero). I'm trying to decide if I should stay with the Instinct or move over to the HTC Hero when the upgrade eligibility becomes available in a few months (or if there is another phone that I should consider).
I doubt there will be apps made for the Instinct. I don't believe the operating software is set up in that fashion. Another thing to consider is that App developers have as their main goal getting their apps in as many hands as possible. Samsung instincts operating software is only available on a limited number of handsets. I don't believe that Samsung is going to put the effort in to developing apps for the phone themselves and with developers focusing on newer operating systems. I know at some point there was an attempt at setting up apps for the instinct I think Sprint even made the SDK available but I'm pretty sure that went little to know where. You're gonna need to change to the webos, blackberry, or android for apps pal. Happy Shopping!
Well that's disappointing to know that there won't ever be any apps for the Instinct other than what's available from Sprint and the few websites that have some basic apps for the Instinct. I had a Sanyo SCP-8400 and changed to the Instinct M800. If I were to change phones again, that would leave esentially two working phones that I would have purchased; so what do I do with those now since they're outdated?
When I was looking around for phones at the time I got the instinct, I always thought the blackberry was associated with e-mail and I didn't think I had a need for 24/7 access to e-mail. I've recently looked at the iPhone, but to have it configured in the same way as the Instinct would cost around $300-400. AT&T doesn't seem to have anything equivalent to Sprint's "Everything data" plan -- $30 extra per month for the data plan, $5 extra per month to have 200 text messages, $9.99 extra per month for the voice-guided navigation (which is what the Instinct has as part of the data plan). The instinct just seems limited.
So, if no apps are being developed for it, why have the S30 and now the Instinct HD?
The Hero, the Moment, Palm Pre and Pixi and Blackberrys from Sprint include Navigation at no charge with Everything Plans. All these I mentioned have app stores with thousands of apps at Android Market (Hero and Moment), Palm App Catalog, and Blackberry App World. All are excellent alternatives. The m800 and especially the S30 are still fetching good prices on Ebay.

If you like an all touch phone, with very similar to iPhone features and functions, i.e. an app store with thousands of apps, then Hero is a great phone.
