make songs into ringtones

I am purchasing a sanyo 8400. I have heard some people say you can turn songs into ringtones. Can someone please tell me how? I know your not suppose to be able to do that with this phone, but I also know there is usually ways around this kind of thing. Thanks for your help in advance.

I know a download you can do but you have to have a computer. The download is called "Goldwave". Basically all you do is download goldwave to your computer, put your song into goldwave and then listen to it. Once you get the part you are looking for you can actually chop the song to your desired length. Now ive never tried it on the 8400 but i have done it on razr's through other companies. Hopefully it works out good for you.

Well to be honest i dont know a whole lot about the how to do other interesting things besides watch TV and play your music but that also depends on what vision package you have. If you have anymore questions just make up a post and ill see if i have an answer for ya. Good luck with GoldWave and tell me if it works.

For the Sanyo 8400, that is a good phone.. try googling for the application called WAVEPAD, that is what I use for my ringers. make sure that you have a folder labeled ringers, open the program, pick your music, and find the part that you want. (Note, altho you can make a ringer at any length, the guidelines to ringer making is 20 sec. any longer can be considered copywrite issues by the FCC). The 8400 uses the file formats .mp3, and m4a. You can also make vid ringers for your phone, using the SuperC or the imTOO converter, and a vid slicer. You can also make your own screensavers. I wish you lots of fun time for you and your phone!!:)

Ive never heard of WAVEPAD before. I checked it out yesterday after i saw your post. Its pretty much the same thing as goldwave. Still it is nice to know just incase goldwave goes away or something.

Very true, Johnson.. I have been using wavepad for over 8 months and have found it very easy to use and convert file formats. the only thing it doesn't do is the midi or qpc file formats, so then in you use pvconvert you can make the other files.. Wavepad does a ton of stuff, and not just for ringers!! Glad that you found it tho!!

Sorry for bringing up an old topic...
Goldwave and wavepad both seem like shareware apps. You folks might want to look into audacity. It's a free, open source, cross platformaudio editor. I prefer Adobe Audition/Cool Edit Pro personally (I grew up using it), but free is free. Probably a bit much for someone who just wants to trim an mp3...but overkill FTW :)
They even have a tutorial for Making Ringtones.
    ...andsome folks mightneed GCD Creator
While I don't really bother with my Treo, I used to put a high pass filter around ~150hz (ie. bass cut) on the ring tones intended for mere mortal phones ;)
They just sound better that way IMO.
    Enjoy.

    Re: make songs into ringtones

I have all that and more, doctah, on 3gINFERNO, and I am live help lol.. there is just too many things you can do with both a "normal" cell phone and a "smart" phone and I enjoy messing with them all the time. I really get satisfaction out of helping other people to "pimp" their phones out, the way they want it. Say you wanted to read the latest Stephen king on your phone while waiting on the bus to carry you accross town, or you want your kids to see Nemo on the road trip to grandmothers house, while using the free wayfinder gps maps cuz grandmother just bought a new house? or you are on a hot date with that toatly cute guy, and make a screen saver with both your names for your phone? there are too many possibilitys out there, such as phone as modem, or some of the cool apps that turn your pda into a mirror or a roadside flashlight.

If you are smart, and know how to google, what is shareware then? true hacked, cracked, or whatever you wish to call it, it still works, and chances are that when you get a program like that, it may be outdated, but it still works to get the job done. I have put in my time with Sprint searching and figuring out what I can do with my phone, (i have had the a640, 8300, 8400, m610, m1, a900, and treo) and have made my friends happy with tons of stuff I have made. I don't "pirate", because, first of all, I can't afford to buy ringers and games. I am very thankful that p2p, the torrent sites, the wares sites, all exists. Without them, chances are, I would be asking the same question as what started this thread. Best of all, one of my friends has a site, that I am on 24/7/ I look at it this way, I am an unpaid sprint rep. I help people to actually enjoy and get use out of their phone, and a few people I know, amass collections of phone stuff, I am always finding neat stuff, and very rarely am I bored. :)

Besides all that, I get to meet some very interesting people and have friends in probably each state now, lol that is why I enjoy and plan on never leaving Sprint. This isn't a site to get into the how to's, but if you go to this site: http://www.top100cellphone.com and look around I am sure that there is a site for anyone. my site is at number 367. I am amazed. this time last year,my site was just starting out.. I think I like this site much bettter tho!! lol hope this helps too..

    Re: make songs into ringtones

Here are a few sites I use for free ringers:

www.3gforfree.com- It's good but they haven't updated any of the songs in the last 5 - 6 months. I use it sometimes because the variety is good. You will find a good mix of different music Genres, Comedy, Seasonal Music and Screen Savers. They even have some decent Games all for free!

www.gritsandeggs.com/ringers- Good for Urban Radio hits and Underground Southern Rap and Hip-Hop and R&B. If it's on Urban radio and a bonified hit you will find it here as it is updated every month or so. Plus the fact that it caters to underground club songs is a plus to keep you in the loop. Another thing I like is they have an extensive archive of ringers from Old School classics to Hits from a year or two ago.

If you want to make your own ringers cause you just can't find what your looking for or the group you happen to like isn't Mainstream enough for their ringers to be readily accessible here's another option:

Use Audacityhttp://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/( Very clean interface and if familiar with music editing progs, easy to use) to trim a 30 - 35 sec part of a song and upload it to one of two sites. www.3guppies.com or www.myxertones.com. Registration for either is free and they also have WAP sites you access from your phones browser and easily DL to your device. 3guppies uses a locker method and whateveryou make (SS or Ringers) goes there and only you have access through the WAP site unless you share the Login info, but you can alsobrowse the ringtones and screensaversthey already have there too. The Screen Savers are free but the "Premium" ringers cost. Much better to make your own and then save to your locker. MyxerTones is good too, although lately I have had some trouble getting ringers to DL. Your welcome to try it though. They don't use a Locker format but they still keep your ringers on their servers, plus you can browse other users ringers and if you record and publish your own music, you can apply for a MyxerIndie account and sell your won stuff. They also have Screen Savers and most of the SS and Ringers you find there will be free unless they are a MyxerIndie's recording and they have opted to charge for them.

    Here are the steps:

    1. Load your music (I use mp3 cause 3guppies and Myxertones are more adapted to those formats) into Audacity and cut paste the part of the song you want. If its a tricky lead in or outro you will find that highlighting the part and clicking View then Fit in Window will allow you to really shave off the parts you don't want better.

    2. When you save the ringer make sure to export it as an mp3 and it might help to make a folder to place it in for future reference when you go to upload it.

    3. Go to either site, register if you haven't already and upload the editedsong.

4.If using 3guppies: Point your phone browser to www.3guppies.com

(the WAP site should load) use your cell # and your Password for accessto your personal locker. Easy!
