Samsung Moment Software Issues

Hello,
I am having similar challenges with my Moment as other customers. I have had it for a few months and I already have exchanged it a few times and its the same issues each time. It appears to be software issues with the phone as well as the charging port.
Below are a list of issues with the phone:
1. Randomly turns off and I have to take out the battery to restart.
2. Consistently opens apps in taskiller that i never opened (i.e. nfl mobile, voice control, camera etc.)
3. Often very slow.
4. May freeze up several times a day and I must reboot it.
5. Phone doesn't charge well in the car unless it is turned off. May sometimes reboot if you plug it into the car charger
6. When the phone is receiving calls the screen will sometimes be completely black and I can't see who is calling. Often it doesn't allow me to answer the call.
7. Battery usage is horrible. It must be charged at least 2-3 times a day in order to last a whole day. And that is considering that it is not used often throughout the day other than a few text messages and 1 10 min call at most per day.
8. Some applications will often shut off after a few minutes used even though the phone is plugged in and no other app is running (i.e. Pandora, Music).
9. Certain applications do not work properly due to poor signal. Even in Dallas where there should be 3G and 4G, I am unable to run certain apps like the Sprint Navigation, Pandora, etc. as I drive due to often losing signal.
Overall, I am very dissatisfied with the performance of this phone. I upgraded from a Palm phone to the Samsung Moment expecting all the new bells and whistles to work as they were promised and I have ran into nothing but issues. Please advise.
It could be that some of the issues you are seeing, are related to the recent DI06 software update for the Moment. I know that since I upgraded my phone to it (once OTA and once OTW), my phone has almost become useless. I can't get it to charged past 70%. Then the battery dies within 3-4 hours of standby.
I think this was a really bad release. I mean, did Samsung even test this update before they shipped it out?
I have some similar problems. These are my personal responses to your list:
1. Randomly turns off and I have to take out the battery to restart.
Sometimes my phone turns off, and it takes a minute to turn back on. I wait a minute and try the power button again. It usually turns on.
2. Consistently opens apps in taskiller that i never opened (i.e. nfl mobile, voice control, camera etc.)
"Killing" apps that open automatically can reduce your phones performance because it takes more resources to re-open the app than it takes to let it run in the background. Or so I have read. I put those apps on my ignore list, which seems to help.
3. Often very slow.
I have noticed that the phone runs slower when data is running in the background (autosync, weather widget, apps backing up to the network). I try to limit the settings on these apps and choose to back up to the SD card instead of a network backup.
4. May freeze up several times a day and I must reboot it.
The phone/data freeze is a known flaw, otherwise called Unwanted Airplane Mode or Up Arrow of Death. I mitigate this issue by turning wifi off and then rebooting. This helps until the next time I turn wifi back on.
5. Phone doesn't charge well in the car unless it is turned off. May sometimes reboot if you plug it into the car charger
I have never experienced this. I plug my phone into the car, computer, wall charger, wall USB charger, and external batteries, and with my five Moments, I have not had this problem. Perhaps the charging port is bad (like you mentioned), or even the charger.
6. When the phone is receiving calls the screen will sometimes be completely black and I can't see who is calling. Often it doesn't allow me to answer the call.
I assume that you are not holding the phone in your left hand, accidentally covering the light sensor with your thumb... I have done that before.
Using the green button is more consistent for me when it comes to answering a call.
7. Battery usage is horrible. It must be charged at least 2-3 times a day in order to last a whole day. And that is considering that it is not used often throughout the day other than a few text messages and 1 10 min call at most per day.
Perhaps there is something wrong with the battery. Try dialing *#4636*1111# to check the battery status. Alternatively, from the home screen, tap menu, settings, about phone, battery use. This will show what apps use the battery most. Plugging in the phone will reset these stats, so wait until the battery indicator is red before checking this.
8. Some applications will often shut off after a few minutes used even though the phone is plugged in and no other app is running (i.e. Pandora, Music).
I have not experienced this. However, if an app opens in the background to update or whatever, resources may be taken away from another app that is running in the background. Does the app close when it is in "focus", ie not running in the background?
9. Certain applications do not work properly due to poor signal. Even in Dallas where there should be 3G and 4G, I am unable to run certain apps like the Sprint Navigation, Pandora, etc. as I drive due to often losing signal.
Sounds like more UAM. Perhaps turning off wifi and rebooting will help with the network lock up.
I hope some of these suggestions help.
I have noticed a significant number of issues with my phone since the update.
I have not had the issue of it not charging, it seems to charge several time, but I have been seeing the issues with the phone locking up for no reason. I have to remove the battery to get any response out of the phone at all.
I have also had issues where the screen lock just goes away. Hitting the red button (lower right button), the screen goes blank (like it is locked) and when pressed again, the screen shows up again just as it would when you unlock the phone. The only fix I have found is to reboot the phone and then it works fine for a while.
Another issue is with the proximity sensor. Today, I was on a call and the screen never turned off and the phone kept opening applications while I was on the call.
Finally, I have noticed the phone is occasionally very slow to respond when a phone call comes in. There have been several occasions where the phone rings, the caller-id is displayed and the phone does not respond to the 'swipe to answer' function on the phone (the haptic feedback occurs, but the green bar does not respond to slide to answer).
Helloo Samsung Sufferer:
Good to know I am not alone in the deathtrap of android ****. You said all, no matter how hard I try to fix the issue, there comes another one along. cant tell you how many times the only stupid answer from sprint is to shut down the battery etc,,,,,,,,,,, I have so many force close and not sure what certain things to do, as the booklet and online plus the verbage of the menu/settings etc aren't in the place that you click to, Example, data sync theretwo areas of sync work and accounts. Next. factory reset is not under phone storage, its under privacy link. I still cannot get my bluethooth headsets to go, it only goes so far but, not connected. then I lose it completely. I really need my headsets in place. thanks for the input :]
