Gingerbread GPS Issues

After upgrading to GB, I am having GPS issues. It will get a fix on the satelites, but after about 5 minutes, Google Navigation says GPS signal lost. This happens with other apps also, like Sprint Navigation and GPS Test. The GPS lock icon is in the notification bar, but no program can access the GPS until I reboot. I see lots of people reporting this problem in other Android forums. Hopefully someone from Sprint will see this and realize there is a problem.
I checked out this phone and tried to replicate the issue but was not able to. I used Google Navigation with an Epic in one hand and my Evo 4g in the other and they both worked fine even after around 15 minutes. If you continue to have this issue, I would recommend visiting a Service & Repair Center.
thanks

smae problem here after the gingerbread EI22 update. not one single problem on froyo with gps lock ups. they better patch it and fix it. i use my gps alot! yes everyone is having this problem after the update. go to xda.com and see for urself
Is there a specific application that uses GPS that wont work - or is the problem that after 5 minutes NO apps that access location work until you powercycle?

After 5 minutes or so NO app can access the GPS. Today I used GPS going to and from work with no problems. So it is an intermittent problem. I will keep using it to see if I can find a pattern.
Got the same issue! I did the manual update this morning and no GPS sat's found, just says searching.
UPDATE: I powered off and restarted and now the GPS seems to be working. Had it on for about 10 minutes. Looks like after initial installation of GB you may need to power off and restart to get it working correctly.
Same problem here, Icon gets stuck, better yet when I turn off and on the GPS after the icon gets stuck and then try to use Yelp or something similar my phone stalls and then reboots.
I seem to be having problems getting a GPS lock, too. It used to be pretty good under Froyo, but now it seems to take a long time to get a lock, if it gets one at all. That's with the help of apps with tools clear cached data and download assistance data. Fortunately I don't use location services very much, but this is going to be a real pain when I do (e.g., navigation in the car). It sounds like this is not an isolated problem, so hopefully Sprint/Samsung can do something about it. I don't think we should have to root our phones to apply patches, which I think I've come across before as possible solutions to GPS problems. The GPS should just work right. IIRC, there were GPS issues under Eclair, too. Is there some reason it's so hard to get the GPS to work well on the Epic? And are there fixes coming or that we can apply (preferably without the need to root)? Thanks.
Same thing here. I use endomondo to track my walking exercise, worked fine under Froyo but the first time using it after the Gingerbread update I saw it'd stopped tracking at around the 6m45s mark. GPS Status & Toolbox (3rd party app) hung when I lauched it, I had to power down the phone and power it back up. I had the GPS tools reset the GPS chip, I'll see if it does any better today.
I did a manual update Friday morning ....and my gps kept losing it signal all day long .....had to reboot phone...use my gps all day for work...had some keyboard issues kick in too
anyway went back to Froyo until they work the bugs out of gingerbread....like they didnt have enough time....all done with Samung products...and not to happy with Sprint also.
Same thing again today, didn't act like it was hung up this time but it kept losing signal.
Yeah, pretty amazing Sprint / Samsung can't get the GPS working after all the time they had....
I don't get on these forums too much. Do Sprint employees monitor / post on here? It would be nice to have Sprint acknowledge a problem with GPS and Gingerbread.
Sprint doesn't make the update, Samsung does...so this issue is entirely on Samsung. You can report problems directly to Samsung as well. Someone on another forum made a patch that fixes the GPS by using the GPS files from another Samsung phone...and it does work. There are a few steps to being able to install it though and it involves flashing a custom recovery to the phone.
coasterphotos, do you have to be rooted to apply the GPS fix you refer to?
