If you have a device that operated exclusively on the Nextel National Network (iDEN), this means:

  • Your Nextel (iDEN) devices no longer can make calls, including 9-1-1 calls
  • Your Nextel (iDEN) lines have been cancelled
  • Your Nextel (iDEN) phone number(s) will be lost and you cannot move that number to another carrier.
  • You may lose contacts, pictures or other data stored on your Nextel devices

If you desire to resume service with Sprint on devices that operate on the Nationwide Sprint Network, please contact us  as follows:

Business customers:

Contact your Sprint representative or Dedicated Care specialist or call 800-927-2199

Personal customers:

Visit your local Sprint store or call 855-881-5353 today!  (add find a store link)

NOTE:  If you have a PowerSource device (ic402, ic502, ic602, ic902) , the push-to-talk feature stopped working at shutdown; the device, however, will continue to make and receive voice phone calls over the Nationwide Sprint Network.  As this is an older technology, we encourage PowerSource customers to move to the Sprint CDMA network.  Also PowerSource devices are no longer supported by Service and Repair and as of 6.30.13  you are unable to manage your PowerSource device via online account management tools.

The more recent blog for the iDEN network shut down is located here.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Nextel National Network (iDEN) will shut down on June 30, 2013, starting at 12:01AM. If you have a device that operates exclusively on the Nextel National Network (iDEN), this means:

  • Beginning at 12:01AM on June 30, your Nextel (iDEN) devices will not be able to make calls, including 9-1-1 calls
  • You will lose your existing phone numbers if you take no action before June 30, 2013. As a result, you will not be able to transfer your current phone numbers to Sprint devices or devices with an alternative wireless carrier
  • You may lose contacts, pictures or other data stored on your Nextel devices All remaining Nextel/iDEN devices will be deactivated on June 30, 2013.

If you have a PowerSource device (ic402, ic502, ic602, ic902) , the push-to-talk feature will stop working on June 30, 2013; the device, however, will continue to make and receive voice phone calls over the Nationwide Sprint Network.  As this is an older technology, we encourage PowerSource customers to move to the Sprint CDMA network.  Also PowerSource devices are no longer supported by Service and Repair and after the network shutdown on 6/30/2013.  Customers will be unable to manage their PowerSource devices via online account management tools.

Don’t wait — When changing phones, the phone number moves to the new phone when the phone is activated.

When you move to CDMA after June 21, we may not be able to ship the CDMA phone in time to have it activated and working before we  shutdown the Nextel  iDEN network.   It takes up to 5 business days to process and ship the order.

Ordering an activated  phone guarantees that your phone number  will move to the CDMA phone before June 30 and you will not loose it.

Business customers take action!

Contact your Sprint representative or Dedicated Care specialist or call 800-927-2199 today to discuss the generous device offers and migration assistance that we can provide to ease your transition to the Nationwide Sprint Network.

Personal customers

Visit your local Sprint store or call 855-881-5353 today! Our goal is to make your transition as easy as possible.

It’s crunch time for undecided iDEN/Nextel customer with less than 30 days until the Nextel Network shutdown set for June 30, 2013. If a you do nothing to proactively move your line prior to12:01 am on June 30 your phone will no longer work - including 911 calling, you will lose their phone/PTT numbers and your line will automatically be cancelled.

If a you want to keep their phone number -- either staying with Sprint or move to another carrier -- it’s important you take action NOW and NOT wait until the last week of June as it can take several days to fully complete the move.

We recommend placing migration orders no later than 3pm on Friday, 6 /21 to ensure you will have enough time to:

1. Receive any shipped order/new devices and accessories

2. Charge the new equipment batteries

3. Process the network change/swap

4. Set up and program the new phone voicemail, data, contacts, other preferred settings,  etc.

At the end of the month there can be unexpected shipping delays, longer call or store wait times, or temporary outages of in stock device choices which also add to the urgency of moving as soon as possible.

IMPORTANT: if you want to keep your phone number should ensure that you are completely moved off iDEN by Friday, 6/28 and therefore avoid the 6/29-30 weekend iDEN network cancellation activities.

Note:  PowerSource customers who have the hybrid devices (ic402, ic502, ic802, and ic902) that combine a Sprint CDMA voice/data  with Nextel push-to-talk will not be cancelled at shutdown as these customer can continue to use their current device  post 6/30 just without the PTT service.   If you have PowerSource devices,* the push-to-talk feature will no longer work; however, these devices will retain their voice and data capabilities.

We urge you to contact your Sprint Sales Representative or Dedicated Care Specialist or call 800-927-2199 today to discuss our generous device offers and migration assistance that we can provide to ease your transition.

Are you finding LTE signals in your city where we haven’t launched LTE? If so, tell us about it.

We continue to make progress in bringing Sprint customers an all-new 4G LTE network, which will provide faster speeds for uploading photos, surfing the Web and streaming videos.

In some areas where Sprint has not yet officially launched LTE, it's possible that customers may encounter a part of the network that has been turned on for testing.

We enjoy seeing customers reach out to tell us about how much they like experiencing our 4G LTE.

So, if you’re in Los Angeles, we invite you discover and use LTE where you’re already finding it. Share where you are and your experience on Twitter using the #Discover4GLA hashtag. Keep in mind that any speeds, connection or coverage on our 4G LTE network prior to an official launch won’t necessarily be representative of what you  will see in that city at launch.

“The demand for smartphones continues to increase and therefore a strong network is more important than ever this holiday season,” said Kevin Gleason, vice president-Consumer Sales, Sprint. “Our 4G LTE network in the Chicago area will enable our customers to access emails quickly, upload photos and videos, and keep in touch with colleagues while spending time with the family.”

Sprint’s network buildout, known as Network Vision, not only delivers 4G LTE but also is expected to provide 3G customers better wireless signal strength, in-building coverage, and fewer dropped/blocked calls. These 3G improvements are already available to customers in several cities across the country, such as Baltimore, Boston, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C. All Sprint 3G customers in these areas, including the company’s prepaid customers on Assurance Wireless, Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile, can expect to see better coverage and improved network reliability and voice quality once the improvements come to their areas.
