Sprint HTC Arrive™ users will begin receiving an invitation soon to update their phones to the latest release of Windows Phone, code-named Mango today. The new release of Windows® Phone keeps pace with the many different ways people connect and share – whether it’s calls, texts, emails, IMs, tweets, check-ins or posting tagged photos or status updates.

Sprint will be among the first carriers to deliver the update to customers. It will take several weeks for all Sprint customers to be offered the opportunity to update.

Users will receive a notification that an update is available via their phone and will need to connect to their PC to download the update via Zune® software or connect to their Mac and download via the Connector for Mac software.

When you are ready to update your software:

  1. Use the USB cable to connect your phone to your computer. (If Zune or Connector are not installed, you will be prompted to install it when you connect your phone to your computer. Just follow the on-screen instructions.)
  2. On the home screen, you will see a phone icon in the lower left corner indicating that an update is available; click on the Update to launch the backup and update process.
  3. The computer will check for available software updates and if one is available, you will see the message: An update is available for your phone; click the Update button.
  4. You will see an Update Your Phone screen on your computer; click Update Now.
  5. As your phone is being updated, you will see an Update in Progress screen on your computer and an icon on your phone showing a phone connected to a computer. Do not use or disconnect your phone until the software update is complete. If your phone is locked, you may be prompted to unlock it by entering the PIN code to complete the software update.
  6. During the update, your phone will reboot.
  7. Once the update is complete, you will see a Successful Update message on your computer; click the Finish button, and you can now disconnect your phone from the computer.

Some of the new features Mango offers include:

  • Threads – Switch between text, Facebook chat, and Windows Live Messenger within the same conversation.
  • Groups – Group friends,      family, co-workers into personalized Live Tiles to see the latest status updates right from the Start screen and quickly send a text, email or IM to the whole group.
  • Hands-free messaging – Built-in voice-to-text and text-to-voice support enables hands-free texting or chatting.

Mango brings improved app notifications and updates on the HTC Arrive Start screen, and only Windows Phone connects apps to your searches making them easier to discover and use.

  • App Connect – By further integrating apps into Windows Phone Hubs, including Music + Video and Pictures, Mango allows apps to pop up when needed.
  • Improved Live Tiles – Get real-time information from apps without having to open them by pinning them to the Start screen. Live Tiles can now be bigger and more interactive.
  • Multitasking – Quickly switch between apps in use and allow apps to run in the background while preserving battery life and performance.

It also adds a mobile version of Internet Explorer 9 that leverages built-in phone capabilities, like location awareness and the camera to supply more relevant search results, local info, and suggestions.

  • Internet Explorer 9 – The power of a PC-browser plus support for HTML5 and hardware acceleration graphics. This means you can quickly and easily share web pages with Social Networks directly from within the browser. No copy and paste required.
  • Bing on Windows Phone offers more ways to search the web with voice and music search and Bing Vision, which uses your phone’s camera to look up product info.
  • Local Scout – Provides hyper-local search results and recommends nearby restaurants, shopping and activities in an easy-to-use guide powered by Bing™.
  • Quick Cards – When searching for a product, movie, event or place, see a quick summary of relevant information, including related apps.

Mango also builds deeper social network integration for HTC Arrive. Twitter and LinkedIn feeds and built-in Facebook check-ins are now integrated into contact cards, while new face detection software makes it easy to quickly tag photos and post to the web.

HTC Arrive also gets a Linked Inbox that allows the user to see multiple email accounts in one linked inbox if they choose. Conversations are organized to make it easy to stay on top of the latest mail.

Mango offers built-in support for Microsoft® Office 365 and a free Lync Mobile app for HTC Arrive. Additionally, Mango offers added functionality for organizations to make the most efficient use of resources, allowing IT departments to use existing infrastructure to manage phones or distribute their own applications using Targeted App Distribution in Marketplace.
