Kyocera DuraXT, Exclusively from Sprint, Becomes First Rugged Sprint Direct Connect Device to Earn Underwriter’s Laboratory Environment Platinum Certification
Sprint and Kyocera have partnered to deliver industry-leading Sprint Direct Connect push-to-talk (PTT) rugged devices with eco-friendly attributes.
What does this mean?
Kyocera DuraXT is eco-friendly because it contains extremely low quantities of PVC, phthalates and bromine. Its packaging is 100% recyclable, using soy inks, 35% post-consumer-waste (PCW) paper and glueless construction. Kyocera DuraXT also comes with an eco-friendly charger, which complies with the EC Code of Conduct on Energy Efficiency of External Power Supplies Version 4.
Last year, Sprint announced its partnership with UL Environment – a subsidiary of one of the world’s most trusted third-party testing and certifying organizations, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) – to produce the first environmental standard for mobile devices across the entire wireless industry: ULE 110 Sustainability Standards for Mobile Phones 110.
The standard provides guidelines for:
- sensitive materials usage
- energy management
- manufacturing and operations
- impact to health and environment
- product performance
- product stewardship
- sustainable innovation
Sprint requires that all postpaid and prepaid handsets go through the UL Environment certification process. The Platinum certification earned by DuraXT is the highest tier a device can receive. This is especially notable for a device as rugged and durable as Kyocera DuraXT.
Kyocera is an important partner and supplier to Sprint’s industry-leading PTT handset portfolio. They’re a leader in producing rugged, environmentally conscious products that meet and exceed the needs of business customers. They also have a 50+ year history of impactful environmental programs around the world. Since the launch of Sprint Direct Connect, Kyocera has provided Sprint four rugged push-to talk devices: Kyocera DuraMax, Kyocera DuraCore, Kyocera DuraPlus and Kyocera DuraXT.
Respected device critics are impressed with the Dura Series of workhorse devices, and especially the DuraXT. Here are a couple of the praises that poured in when the device was announced:
- “Kyocera DuraXT is tough as nails, with great call quality, and a respectable camera to boot.” – Lynn La, CNET
- “Kyocera DuraXT is a Direct Connect-capable walkie-talkie device that takes a beating and keeps competing.” – Eric Zeman, PhoneScoop
Sprint Direct Connect
Sprint Direct Connect – the new gold standard in push-to-talk – supports broadband capabilities, the latest business productivity applications, social media and multimedia, and future push-to-X capabilities on Sprint’s nationwide broadband CDMA network.
Sprint recently significantly expanded the coverage area of its Sprint Direct Connect push-to-talk service with the addition of roaming and Sprint 1xRTT coverage areas – creating three times the push-to-talk coverage of the legacy Nextel National Network.1
1 Three times the coverage based on square-mile coverage comparison of Nextel National Network to Sprint National Network (inclusive of roaming).
