Two Windows Phone 8 smartphones are coming to the Sprint nationwide network by summer – one each from Samsung and HTC.

Both the Samsung and HTC smartphones will offer Sprint 3G and 4G LTE and impressive lists of features including dual cameras enabling video chat, dual-core processors for enhanced internal speed between applications and support for expandable external memory. Additional device details, including pricing, will be shared closer to their availability dates.

“Sprint has had a strong relationship with Microsoft for many years so we are excited to reinforce our commitment to the Windows 8 platform by sharing the details and timing for our first Windows Phone 8 smartphones,” said Fared Adib, Sprint vice president of product development and operations. “These smartphones bring a robust new operating platform with the benefit of Sprint’s unlimited data plans. There is no doubt these phones will quickly become an extension of your PC experience right in the palm of your hand.”

Live Tiles are the heart and soul of a Windows Phone. You can arrange the iconic Start screen however you want by pinning your favorite people, apps, music, games, photos and more. The Windows Phone 8 offers a range of new features, including:

  • Live Apps – Information, such as news headlines, is brought right to the Start screen. With Windows Phone 8, Live Apps can even deliver real-time information right to your lock screen with updated wallpaper.
  • Top Apps - The Windows Phone Store has more than 120,000 apps to choose from, with hundreds added every day.
  • Kid’s Corner - A worry-free way to share your phone with your kids, Kid’s Corner lets parents activate a specialized place on the phone for kids to play. Complete with its own customizable start screen, Kid’s Corner prevents kids from deleting photos, misdirecting emails, and making unapproved purchases or accidental phone calls.
  • Rooms – You can create private groups of people who have Windows Phone 8 — like your family members best friends or fantasy football league — and easily connect with just them. Chat, share calendars, shopping lists or photos in an ongoing conversation where only those invited can join in. You can share some aspects of Rooms with friends and family on other smartphones as well.

Sprint brings the unlimited data experience to Windows Phone 8 with Sprint Everything Data plans. The Sprint Everything Data plan with Any Mobile, AnytimeSM includes unlimited Web, texting and calling to and from any mobile in America while on the Sprint Network, starting at $79.99 per month for smartphones – a savings of $20 per month versus Verizon’s comparable plan with unlimited talk, text and 2GB Web (excludes taxes and surcharges).
