So are you confirming that Sprint finally acknowledges this 4G issue? I have spent several very useless calls to tech support where nobody knows anything about it, and more importantly, nobody has taken any note of the issue. No support or trouble tickets, nothing. I haven't spoken to anyone that appears to know anything about the 4G service. So far, I have been told to clear my browser cache, and to "not use 4G"... Really? ***? The sad thing is so far, the solution IS to turn off 4G and not use it. This is Sprint's "flagship" device, and the phone's biggest feature is also its biggest problem... I hope this is actually resolved before the phone becomes obsolete...
"looking for builds 272076 or 294884"
That is from a manual update file that was pulled off of HTC's servers. It may only be one of several versions out there. That file checked for those two versions in its script and if it didn't find them, aborted the install. It stands to reason that the older EVO software builds might need more files to be updated. Hopefully, it is just a matter of time and a tiered rollout so the update will land on all EVOs.
Now my SWYPE force closes everytime I try to use it. I tried uninstalling it and downloading it again, but it doesn't help.
Were you running the SWYPE Beta before the update? If so you are going to want to uninstall that before updating the phone. SWYPE says themselves that you do not want to try running the Beta at the same time as a built-in version.
This isn't noted in the official release notes because the releases are based on the average user. Swype isn't available in the Android market and requires being part of a specific beta program setup by the developer that is not related to a regular release sytem in any way. That developer says themselves that you should not install the beta at the same time as Swype built into the software from the manufacturer.
Unfortunatelt because of the way Swype has decided to work their Beta program and OEM integration with manufacturers this is probably going to become much more common as manufacturers start adding it into phones that power users already have the Beta installed on.
Since I installed the update without unintalling the swype beta, is there a way to fix this. I uninstalled the beta. Swype showes up as an application under all applications, but under languages and keyboards, only Swype settings show. Is there a way to reinstall the update?
