I'm on the SWAC and my Sprint Employee told me I could not purchase the Samsung Galaxy S2 because I'm somewhat seen as an "employee" myself and since they cannot order it, neither can I. They further explained that regualr customers and consumers have first dibs. (hey what about me? what does that make me! lol) Which is weird bc all the other phones, no matter the release date, I could. But not this for some reason. I asked again today if any word on when they could and they said nope. With that being said, does anyone know how long I will have to wait until I am allowed to order the phone? or how long they have to wait until they can order it (they being employees of Sprint)? Any help from the past if this has happened before or if you know the answer would be great! If I have to wait a long time I'm leaning towards the Photon.... :-)
Officially as of right now SWAC customers will be delayed and we do not have a date as of right now, but we are hoping that the delay is a short one. Hopefully we will have an update when SWAC’s can purchase in a couple of weeks. It is an incredible device and will be worth the wait!
Hopefully we will have an update in a couple of weeks, I am hoping that Samsung has ramped inventory in preparation for the success of this device and we can get our hands on it shortly~ Not to mention the Photon has received a ton of great reviews and has all kinds of cool accessories- HD station (Connects device to a big HD screen plus can connect wireless keyboard, external speakers and up to 3 more USB peripherals), Vehicle Navigation Dock (Get directions, listen to music, hands free calling, all while charging your phone) and my favorite a wireless keyboard (Bluetooth, full size keyboard and a 6 month battery life on 2 AA batteries) .
I hope so too! I talked to a sprint rep and they said it could take as long as the Evo (6months) before we can get it.
I keep going back and forth between the two devices. Other than being made by two different companies, I do not know what the difference between the two devices is.
Yes, that's the only downside to that plan; the wait. But think of all the money you're saving over everyone else?
I wouldn't hold my breath, though. In the past it could be anywhere from 3 to 6 months on a popular phone. But seeing how many Android phone model choices they have now, I'd expect it to be a shorter wait.
You just might want to hold off on getting the so called super phone aka Samsung Epic Touch 4g.
First off Sprint has crippled this phone
1. Removed USB host On The Go aka USB OTG
2. Removed the fm radio
Now to read on the so called Sprint 3g upgrade aka EDVO Rev B and how this new super phone has been stripped of it. Yes by all accounts the Samsung Epic Touch 4g will NOT support the new sprint vision network with the beefed up 3g network aka EVDO Rev B.
I am waiting until the Oct 6 announcment from Sprint, if it is told and stated that the Epic Touch 4g does NOT support EVDO Rev B this phone is going right back. I will then clear my account and CLOSE it. I am done with the **** that sprint is pulling as of late when I can goto another provider, pay about the same price and get 4g coverage and a **** of alot better voice signal.
Sprint I really hope and pray that you didnt cut any more from this phone because if on Oct 6 you announce that the Epic Touch 4g does NOT support your new sprint network vision plan you will have a boat load of returns of this phone and I will be one of them.
I am done, you take a world class phone and cripple it to death. Sorry but this phone by the looks of it is NOT furture proof and is not worth the money at this time. Better hold off and look at other options.
Funny you both say that. I had decided I was going to get the Photon anyway! It meets my needs in a smartphone. So I looked up to see if it would support the EDVO Rev B that everyone keeps throwing around, and I read that it will support that. If it won't and anyone knows for sure it won't, please let me know so I won't get it! lol But yes I feel like the new Epic was hyped up a lot, and I got caught up in it, and should have stuck with the original idea of getting the Photon. :-)
Official Sprint Answer:
Sprint is committed to delivering the highest quality network experience. Our Network Vision plan will improve your network experience, but it does not include any EVDO Rev B launch. Sprint has evaluated EVDO Rev B and chosen to go directly to 4G connections. Since we are not launching EVDO Rev B, none of our handsets supports EVDO Rev B.
Thank you for your interest in our Network and Chipset Technologies!
It means absolutely nothing. The 3G data network will work the same way and at the same speeds as it does now for Sprint data devices. The WIMAX 4G data network will work the same as it has recently.
In the next couple years Sprint will be updating their 4G data network to a different protocol, LTE (4G), while continuing to support WIMAX 4G.
The earlier poster was complaining about a possible upgrade (and increased data speeds) to the 3G network which he would like, but Sprint is not making.
Don't get lost in the static. If you're really worried, wait a few months before purchasing a brand new device.
