This is a strange story, but here's what happened.....
Last night I went to activate 1 of my 2 iPhone4S that I ordered online. One for me and the other for the wife. I turned on one of the iphone and made a call to customer service. After about 10 minutes of going through the activation process, she asked me to use another phone so she can finish the activation. After resetting and waiting for the iphone to come back on(several times), she could not get the iphone to activate. So she transferred me to several tech support reps for help. After 40mins of back and forth, the last rep asked me to go to Settings>General>About>Carrier ...he asked me to read the "PRL" numbers..It is 31001 . The rep then said.." sorry for the inconveniences but there is a recall on iphones with these PRL numbers, and Sprint is aware of the problem". I have to take the phone back to a Sprint store and exchange the phone. He said that the PRL number that I have cannot be activated on a Sprint network and Apple made a mistake by shipping these phones out to us. He said it should have a PRL numbers starting with a 50000 or 60000. He gave me a case number and told me to give it to the rep at the store.
Fast forward to today...
I decided to show off the new iphone to a few coworkers. I told my coworkers what had happened, and Sprint wanted me to take it back to the store for an exchange. One of the coworker was very familiar with the iphone, he tried resetting it. When it came back on, it started the activation process, so he took it through the activation process. At the end of the process..Low and behold..it started to work and we were able to make and received calls. We went back into the settings and looked at the PRL numbers...now it reads..51082! The phone works fine now.
Sooo...do I still take it back to the Spring store or do I just keep it??
How did you find your PRL number?
I am having problems with my iPhone 4S. Two separate callers told me that I could not be heard clearly. Called *2 and the person that I spoke with at Sprint stated that she could not hear me initially either! I had Full Bars at the time of this call. With the 14 Day Return Period, I am afraid I will be stuck with a defunct phone. However, I hate to have to start over with the setup and installing all the apps. Very frustrated.
Same EXACT issue with my 4S. My phone works, but no 3G data connectivity!! After some back and forth on the phone, they narrowed it down to a faulty PRL number, 51082. They told me the same thing, to take it back to a retail store. But guess what, retail stores have no phones in stock! So lame. I was told the good PRL numbers are in the 60000 or 52000 range. Did you ever return your phone?
I was transferred to their iphone tech, and after her doing numerous tests and restarts, she finally had me check my PRL number and told me its incompatible with the Spring data network. So I would call them up and have them open a ticket for you, to speed up the exchange process.
Contraditing information in this thread, the OP said 51082 and their phone works fine now, and then later 51082 is not valid? Given all the **** with the iPhone I suspect they would have you check this when you call in. Also, it sounds like if the phone works on the network then ur good to go, the OP could not even activate their phone...
Just got off the phone having gone through the same drill as others; phone wouldn't activate, got sent to the "iPhone tech team" who quickly had me check the PRL. Mine is 31001 and the rep said that was bad and I needed to return the phone to a Sprint store (corporate store only and not to one of the 3rd-party-run stores. My phone had been pre-ordered from Apple and came in on the first day but I delayed activation because I unexpectedly had to go on the road. The rep told me that this problem was only on the pre-orders and that they had taken back most of the bad phones already.
