iPhone 4 won't charge

My iPhone 4 won't charge unless it's completely shut off. I have tried rebooting my phone (holding the home button & power button at the same time) & I have even tried doing a system update. Is anyone else having this problem? Someone please help me.

Hey there! Thanks so much for the post! This issue sounds quite strange! Can you confirm if you're charging the device via computer USB connection, or are you using a wall adapter?

Thanks for the reply, can you take a look at the actual charging port and see if it looks damaged in anyway? Also, have you tried restoring the device through iTunes?

    Thanks for the speedy reply!

No it doesn't appear to be damaged......and i'm not able to connect it to itunes because when I do my phone has to be turned on which when it's plugged it doesn't charge and it's not recognized in itunes.

Hmmm... I would first try restoring your handset to factory settings, first. If it's a software issue, that will surely clear it up. If that doesn't work, it sounds like it would be best to make an appointment with your Apple Store to have your device looked at. Is your device still under the one year warranty?

I am also having the same issue. its been since the last update. My 4s wont charge at all! I was using the wall hub first but that stopped working. Up until today I was using my computer but now that doesnt work. I cant even get it to stay on long enough to do a system restore.

AmatullahUmmkhali, I'm sorry that you're also having some device issues. Have you tried taking it to an Apple store further technical support? Stacy Sprint Social Care Team

It seems to be a dead battery because the USB connector seems OK by what you say!The iPhone is telling you about it by keeping the powered by outlet icon even if not charging!

    1. Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions.   If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage.   If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.

    2. Check    if the Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) in the headset jack or dock connector is activated or there are signs of corrosion or debris. Learn more about LCIs.

    3. Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.

    4. After at least 15 minutes, if:

    • The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen  . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.

    • The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See   "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.

    • If something other than the Home screen or Low Battery screen appears on the display, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.

    5. If the iPhone did not turn on, try resetting it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter. To reset, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until either the Apple logo or the battery symbol appears.

    • If the display turns on, go to step 4.

    • If the display remains black, go to next step.

    6. Restore the iPhone. Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.

    7. If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
