On my HTC EVO 4G, I did the following:
From home screen: main menu (just above the home button) > voicemail > menu > settings > voicemail-to-text > unsubscribe
You may find that the little circle spins around for several minutes. Mine did. It eventualy confirmed that I successfully unsubscribed from the service.
I ran a test once this was done and called myself and was sent to my Sprint voice mail program. Before Sprint switched me to voicemail-to-text, I used Google Voice to receive and store all of my voice mails. I used it more for the storage than for the transcribing, which is as only slightly more accurate than voicemail-to-text.
To those who use Google Voice, if you wish to go back to that service after terminating your Sprint voicemail-to-text, you will need to log in to your Google Voice account and re-activate the service for your cell phone number. I suspect this will be the case with users of any other similar non-Sprint voice mail storage services.
Sprint, I've been very happy with the service I have received as a customer for the last 10+ years, and this is the first time I've really been annoyed by a change you've made. Voicemail-to-text is definitely nifty, but it would have been best if it had been offered as an opt-in service. It's obvious it's unpopular with a lot of people.

We are turning on Premium Visual Voicemail for 30 days for all new customers to let them try the service. Our hope is that they enjoy the service enough to want to subscribe to it after the 30 day trial is up.
If the customer does nothing, they are not charged when the 30 day trial is over, they just stop receiving the text transcriptions and the other premium features.
As you found, for customers that do not like the service, they still have the ability to turn off the service from the application.

I noticed a charge of $1.99 on my daughter's line for "visual Voicemail" starting back in Oct. 2012. She had been getting the voicemail to text through this trial. When Sprint mentioned below that there would NOT be a charge, I'd ask you to look at your billing statements!
When I called Sprint re: the charge, I was told that she would have had to click on her phone to make a change like this. Also, I was told that she only had visual voicemail free for 15 days because that's their policy, although she's had Visual Voicemail standard on her phone since she got it Dec. 2010.
BIG miss here Sprint! I had to go HERE to find out this info and tell your customer service rep AND their manager on duty. They were clueless!!!!
