It's not the excitement that's the issue. It's the poor planning and roll out of the promotion that has caused confusion. Address the issue directly and move on. The doublespeak where you apologize without admitting responsibility, or in this case blame the customer's "excitement" for your poor planning is pretty silly.
1. The email link should work for everybody - however it only does if you are already logged into Sprint
2. There should be a banner link easily seen on Sprint's website to the sweepstakes for those who for some reason can't get the emailed link to work.
3. Be open about if this is a data mining event or a real customer appreciation event. If it's customer appreciation (which is what it looks like on the surface) we shouldn't have to enter in our data again and opt in to a bunch of spam. If it's data mining, just admit it and tell us in exchange for your data we'll give you a chance to win the following prizes.
Simple. Honest. Direct. It's what Sprint has been selling for a while now. The "sweepstakes" should live up to that same ethos.
