A few weeks ago, while I was officiating a local youth sports event, one of the tournament officials called down to us between matches.
“Do any of you (officials) happen to have a charger on you?”
My first and gut answer was “No, I don’t bring a regular charger with me…” The Samsung Galaxy S10+ does a spectacular job managing its power consumption. I have NEVER run out of power with the Samsung Galaxy S10+, and it has NEVER put me in a situation where I am scrambling for a charger.
My partners for the day also replied that they didn’t have a charger. But then it dawned on me… The Galaxy S10+ offers #WirelessPowerShare so that anyone who might be with you who needs a power boost can get one from your phone IF their device supports wireless charging. So the conversation went like this:
“Sorry I don’t have a charger… but what kind of phone do you have?”
“I have an <<fill in your favorite 2 generations old phone here>> 8… I think it’s the + size, I’m not sure.”
“Do you know if it supports wireless charging?”
“I don’t know… I don’t think so. How would I know?”
This is where I unlocked my phone, pulled down the Notification bar and then dragged down again for more buttons, and then tapped the “Wireless PowerShare” button. A nifty little graphic specifies exactly how to line up the other device, and provides more information about compatible devices and how it might affect performance.
“How much charge to you have? Can I see your phone?”
“9%. What are you going to do?”
I put both phones back to back and heard the oh so sweet sound of Wireless PowerShare initiating, and then came the reaction.
“No way!!! OMG you’re a lifesaver! Thank you!”
I went and officiated a match for 50 minutes, and then came back to the sideline. She immediately came down from her perch and handed me my phone.
“Thank you SOOO much! I’m good now!”
“How much charge did you get?”
“I’m at 23% now. But that’s all I need! I should be able to get through the rest of the day. That’s so cool by the way! I wish my phone did that, and I didn’t know my phone could charge that way!”
At this point, I literally started to look around for a camera crew. These sorts of interactions with these special features that Samsung offers on their devices create very ‘Hollywood’ moments that seem staged, but are really genuine! Hard to beat the convenience and WOW-factor of #WirelessPowerShare!
