Mobile Hot Spot

What exactly is this and how does it work?  I have unlimited and don’t understand what this is.

Mobile hotspot is a feature on your phone that allows you to connect another device to the internet on your phone. Ultimately, you can connect a device (phone, tablet, or laptop) to your phone, when a network connection (data on Sprint or WiFi) isn't available. The hotspot isn't actually unlimited, but the amount of hotspot allowance is determined by the level of your Unlimited plan.
