I've had a 5S for years that every time I see a good deal for a new phone I hit that old "upgrade" button and completely get locked out of it.
I see in other threads where Sprint reps will message someone with available deals based on their account.

I found out today there is no love for existing customers. My sim cards are in the mail from ATT as we speak.
