Sprint_Logo_Community.jpg***Update 9/24/18: Heads up Sprint Calling Plus users. Very important announcement.

Regarding Calling PLUS Service Decommission

*** Update 9/24/18: In preparation for the launch of VoLTE (already being tested in some markets, expected to launch fully in 2019), Voice Call Continuity may not work on some devices.  This means that some Apple devices and some later model Samsung Galaxy devices will not be able to use Data and Voice at the same time except where WiFi is available or where VoLTE may be in the testing stages.  ***

Sprint is excited to announce a new solution which allows customers to use voice and data simultaneously while on the Sprint LTE network or WiFi.  Calling PLUS has just been enabled on many Sprint devices.

What you need to know:

Calling PLUS combines two features: one old and one brand new!

  • WiFi calling - our VoIP calling feature that lets you make and receive calls over WiFi
  • Voice and text on the Sprint LTE network, allowing simultaneous voice and data

Calling PLUS is delivered to your device by software update.  Once your device has received the software, set up is easy!

  1. On the phone, select Settings > Calling PLUS.
  2. Slide Calling PLUS to On.
  3. Customer can view Tutorial pages to learn more information about the service.
  4. View pre-populated address
    • If the Country field says Non-USA, Select the Country and choose USA.
    • Enter a USA address manually.
    • If address is not shown or is incorrect, enter the address manually.
    • Address must be within the USA.
  5. Select Save.
    • Your phone will validate the address required for E911 service and completes the enablement of Calling PLUS.
  6. Select Calling PLUS options to enable each feature:
    • Wi-Fi Calling is On by default.
    • LTE Calling is optional but recommended to allow both Simultaneous Voice and Data and call handoffs between Wi-Fi Calling and LTE Calling.
    • Call handoffs will go from Wi-Fi to LTE even if the LTE Calling switch is Off.  LTE Calls require the Wi-Fi Calling switch to be turned On for a handoff to Wi-Fi.

That's it!  Your phone is now enabled for Calling PLUS.  You can call anyone using Calling PLUS, the person or party that you're calling does not need to have Calling PLUS in order for it to work.

Keep in mind:

  • Calling PLUS is included free of charge with your Sprint plan, though data usage does count toward any metered data allotment.
  • Calling PLUS is a only available to select devices at this time and only in areas with LTE service.  We will add more device models over time.
  • Calling PLUS is not a VoLTE solution and call quality can vary based on location and network conditions.
  • Calling PLUS is only supported on the Sprint LTE network and will not work over roaming partner networks.
  • Calls initiated while on LTE will not hand off to CDMA towers.  When leaving an LTE area, such a call may drop.

Starting with iOS 11, iPhone 6 and newer devices are now enabled with Voice Call Continuity (VCC).  VCC allows a call initiated on WiFi to hand off to LTE and back to WiFi, while also permitting the user to access some data functionality.  With VCC, a call will never start on LTE so data will be unavailable when a call starts in an LTE area.

**Please Note: VCC has been disabled in preparation for the launch of VoLTE**

These devices have VCC already enabled:

  • iPhone 6 devices and newer on IOS 11 (with the exception of the iPhone XS and XS Max)
  • LG X Charge
  • LG V20
  • LG V30+
  • Essential
  • Samsung J3 Emerge

**VCC is a separate function from CallingPLUS but accomplishes some of the same goals.  **

she added it to the list up top.

Is there a list of phones that you guys are working on making this available for?

GrandMaster
unfortunately no. the only list currently are the devices that have received it so far. might as well figure any spark capable device will more than likely be receiving this since they are the ones unable to do both talk and surf.

Is the merger with T Mobile going to have any effect on these service issues?

We can't comment on that possibility, I'm sorry

Hi Kmistry8 - Yes, the Calling PLUS feature is limited just to Android devices.  For iOS devices, they do have the handoff feature you mentioned from Wi-Fi to VoIP on LTE.  When the call is on Wi-Fi or using the VoIP on LTE you will have simultaneous voice and data.  We currently do not have a method for iOS devices to start the call on the VoIP side.

For Tutorials on Calling PLUS, there are a couple places to get info.

Overview page:  sprint.com/callingplus

FAQs: sprint.com/cpfaq

Setup Tutorials: On Sprint.com, choose the "Support" title at the top > Device Tutorials.  Choose the device and then go to the Calls option.

I recently upgraded to the Note8 and I can not have an active phone call and use data simultaneously.  Are you telling me this feature is not available on this phone?  If this is the case, they can take this phone back and I will go back to iPhone.  It was a big enough pain switching from iPhone to Samsung in the first place.  This will be the let down that sends me back to APPLE.

Journeyman

You can't use date while on phone with iPhone either. Look at the first phone, the describe what devices have this option right now. iPhone can only continue a phone call from wifi to LTE, which would allow you to continue to use data. However initial call with an iPhone will make it that you can't use data, I have gotten to the point where I call people using apps like Skype or WhatsApp....

The update for the Note 8 started today, 11/15.  The update will be available on devices over the next week and it does include the Calling PLUS feature.

My Samsung Note8 just updated today.  It still doesn't allow me to use phone and data simultaneously.  Is there a setting i need to change?

    • If the Country field says Non-USA, Select the Country and choose USA.

When will this work for iPhones

Community Manager

We don't have information about which devices are coming next, @kmistry8 and not sure that the feature will be added to Apple devices at all.  You do have the VCC option now and we're working to bring true VoLTE to Sprint phones ASAP.  When that happens, we will definitely make an announcement about it.

So I recently changed my package to the new one with Hulu. When I go to activate the calling plus feature it wants tells me that it will remove Hulu from my plan. I just don't think that is fair to give something then take it away. Seems like a bait and switch deal. I think it's time for me to look for another carrier.

Community Manager

I agree, that wouldn't be fair, which is why activating Calling PLUS should not remove Hulu from your plan, @LGANTT001.  I'd like an agent to look in on your account to see if something else changed that may have affected it. I'll have someone send you a private message.

Just read this, intresting read to be sure.  Wondering if the Kyocera units will get the wifi calling plus update (namely the Dureforce Pro, which already has streight wifi calling onboard :)).  Anyone know if that `un will get this, and if so when?  Thanx!  TK241.

This wifi option is garbage. Hardly a start. I deliver using an app. Its half my earnings. Everytime I'm on the road working and someone calls, the call blocks my app and orders. I lose more money than my sprint bill a week. It's time to switch to a carrier that can handle both in the real world. Beware doordashers, ubereats, postmates, and grubhubbers. Sprint will lose you a ton of money!

GrandMaster

tends to help if you have a device that has Calling Plus on it..since you can then make calls and browse the web.

just sayin.

Journeyman

I tend to agree with Giofet I too deliver using an app platform Im using an IPhone 7 Plus. This is a real struggle. When I’m using the app & my customers contact me it messes the whole thing up. Or if I need to place a call, I won’t get notice for new delivery’s

GrandMaster

sorry for the late response @pnp3372 . since its an apple device this is something they would need to add in to work around this until VoLTE is kicked out in the near future. i have been running Calling Plus on my android device and as long as im in a LTE covered area i can take calls and nav still continues to work great for me. apple is a tad bit picky with what they will allow on their devices and what they will not..calling plus was on the not list...

Journeyman

iphone xs also not supporting voice and data simultaneously. in above list says iphone 6 and newer but on iphone xs doent work. so new iphones are for sprint

Community Manager

The recently released iPhones do not have Voice Call Continuity (VCC) due to they are prepped for VoLTE.

Also and to add further info, unless I'm completely mistaken or mis-informed, the Unlocked version of the NOTE 8 does not have Calling Plus. Can anyone please confirm this?
