Credit: PinterestArsTechnica just recently posted an article detailing how researchers have found several security vulnerabilities embedded into smartphone replacement parts that are being installed through third party repair shops. Check out ArsTechnica's article for more details.
So how can you protect yourself and avoid this? Sprint customers have a few options.
First, if your phone begins to have issues, avoid taking it to a third party repair shop and instead take your phone to a Sprint Corporate Service and Repair location. Our technicians are certified so you can rest easy knowing you’re going to get the best experience. Not sure where the nearest location is? No problem. Head on over to Sprint.com/Storelocator to find your nearest repair center.
Second, Asurion's Total Equipment Protection Plus is a must have. With it, your device will be covered with the following benefits:
Device protection such as loss, theft, damage and malfunction
Cracked screen repair
Next day replacement
Premium Support from Asurion Tech Experts
TEP Plus has a low cost monthly charge, but the peace of mind it gives is worth it.
In addition, iPhone users also have access to Apple's AppleCare+. While similar to TEP Plus, it does vary slightly. AppleCare+ covers the following:
Mechanical or electrical failure
Failure due to normal wear and tear
Minor physical damage
Apple technical support
AppleCare+ does not have a monthly fee, but rather a one-time enrollment fee that covers your iPhone for 2 years past Apples manufacturer warranty.
Whether you go with TEP or Appcare+, the main thing to remember is, protect your device. Not doing so could leave you in a costly situation.
