Washington, D.C. Region to send TEST Wireless Emergency Alert ("WEA") messages

On Thursday, April 5th, 2018, between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m., local government officials in and around Washington, D.C., will TEST the WEA system, to include sending actual TEST WEA messages to wireless subscribers throughout the National Capital Region.  It is likely that cell phones or other mobile devices in the District will receive the following message: "A test of District of Columbia Wireless Emergency Alerts System. No action required". You will receive multiple alert messages, along with a loud tone and vibration, on your device during the test.

Twenty jurisdictions, including the District of Columbia, will simultaneously issue a test message to the public through the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) system.  If you have any questions, please contact your local government. In addition to the District of Columbia, local jurisdictions participating include:

City of Alexandria

City of Bowie

City of College Park

City of Fairfax

  2. Tap on Notification Center and scroll all the way to the bottom.
