New Palm Pre coming to Sprint

http://now.sprint.com/pre/?id9=vanity:pre

Gotta say, this one caught me by surprise, as I had not heard anything about this. Anyway, nice to see Palm finally putting out something that is definitely new for them and Palm fans. Hopefully the new Palm OS system will be worth the long wait. Sorry for all the links, but I don't want to cut and paste all the info for those that are interested..............

http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/08/the-palm-pre/

The new-ness is underway, and Palm just debuted its long(est) awaited all-new handset, the Palm pre. The curvy touchscreen handset has a 3.1-inch 320 x 480 multitouch display, with a rollerball down below and touch sensitivity all down the face the lower part is for "gestures." A full QWERTY keyboard slides out from the phone in a portrait orientation, and you can flip the phone on its side for accelerometer-sensed widescreen browsing. The phone is running Palm's all-new webOS platform, with TI's new OMAP CPU under the hood which Palm claims provides laptop-style power, and which juices the phones smooth transitions, scrolling and "deck of cards" app-switching. Other internal specs include EV-DO Rev. A, 802.11b/g WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth with A2DP and 8GB of built-in flash storage. There's a 3 megapixel camera with LED flash, mass storage-friendly microUSB plug and a good ol' 3.5mm headphone jack, but most exciting is the wireless charger a first for a mainstream phone. More shots are after the break, including a fancy FCC diagram depicting a removable battery. The phone is exclusive at launch for Sprint in the first half of 2009, no word on price just yet.

***also of interest they have a wireless charger for the Palm Pre......interesting

http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/08/palm-pres-wireless-charger/

Info on the new Palm operating system......looks interesting and a long time coming.

http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/08/palm-announces-web-os-platform/

Message Edited by MDG on 01-08-2009 03:57 PM

Re: New Palm Pre coming to Sprint

I know I said my other post would be my final post....

If Sprint can show a committment to its users and keep people current, and invest in their customer support...this phone could win me back.

In fact, it probably will 😄

Good move securing this phone Sprint, this is an awesome move.

Not sure if anyone has taken a look but PhoneArena has a nice review about it along with a video review from CES at the Palm booth. Its likd of long at 17:29 but worth watching if you're at all interested in the Pre. Definitely gonna have to take a serious look at the Pre once its released.

Re: New Palm Pre coming to Sprint

I was doing some reading about this device today. Sounds very promising. I'm excited to see this phone in person. This phone will definately pave the way for more cool devices.

I did'nt find a video on the texting part. I wanted to see the texting screen. hmm. maybe I moved through it too quickly.. or lack of my attention span for things...

Not sure about Mobile Sync, but it does have Synergy, which in theory removes the entire need for Mobile sync from the get-go. If you just ahve all of your contacts sync through to your Gmail, or Exchange, or Facebook, etc. accounts then there is no need for database or computer syncing. A hard reset and entering your synergy info again and you have it all once more.

The Pre if I remember from some CES interviews, will have full Picture and Video messaging support just like PalmOS does now.

Re: New Palm Pre coming to Sprint

this phone is gonna come out RIGHT before i get my 22 month discount. i am not sure, but i am thinking that i might skip the contract this time and just pay full price for the phone. it just seems cleaner that way.
