Touchstone Value???

I am debating on whether or not I should purchase a Touchstone charger. Other than the "cool" factor, are there any other REAL advantages to using one since you still have to use the USB cable and AC adapter that comes with the phone?

Does it charge faster? Is it just the convenience factor of not having to plug in the USB cable?

Re: Touchstone Value???

It does not charge faster it takes much longer to charge with the touchstone. Other then the coolfactor it could be useful after a good night out and you just can't seem to get the power cord into your phone. I like it but its not necessary.

That's a good one! LMAO

I did not know it actually takes longer to charge... Darn!

Re: Touchstone Value???

There are rumors you'll be able to sync with your PC with the Touchstone soon.

I haven't picked on up yet, but I will soon. Since the Pre's battery life is less than optimal, the Touchstone will be perfect for my desk at work.

Re: Touchstone Value???

As someone said above, it charges must faster via the touchstone. You alsodon't have to tinker with the little side usb cover and worry about breaking it. I take the pre with me on my rounds and support calls, then come back to my desk, drop it on the touchstone and stream pandora or one of the video channels. I'd get 2 more if I could for the car and keep one at my desk instead of bring my one with me everywhere... but the stores near me have been boughtout at this point.

Also, its said that you cant answer calls while the usb is plugged in. Calls are supposed to automatically answer on speaker while on the touchstone and switchbetween the earpiece and the speakerphone according to whether its on or off the touchstone.

You CAN answer calls when the USB is plugged in, but it has to be in Charging Only mode.

Actually it was stated it charges much slower on the Touchston, not faster.

Re: Touchstone Value???

From myexperience, I've found it takes about the same time to charge, USB or Touchstone. I like it because I don't have to fight the cover over the USB port.

Admittedly, I got it because it's just way cool!!!!!<img alt="

Re: Touchstone Value???

If it wasn't outrageously priced, it might be worth getting, despite most reports indicating that it charges much more slowly. I am far from cheap, but at the current price, it would make more sense to buy an extra battery or two instead of the Touchstone.

That thing is a huge ripoff considering that the parts cost about $5 according to reports I've seen. Sorry, but I refuse to pay that much markup. They should be ashamed of charging that much.

How much effort does it really take to plug in the USB? Besides, I have to charge my Pre at home, in the car and at the office. I'm certainly not buying three Touchstones.

I have had the touchstone for awhile now. And not having it at launch ment using the usb port. That usb door will be the first thing to break being as you have to charge it so much. After having the touchstone I would never go back. Being able to just pick it up and leave is so under rated. Trust me every pre owner should have this. Once you use it your changed forever.

what its wrong for palm to make some money. Then Sprint or bb or who ever to get there mark up. I swear it cost 5 in parts to make thats not the total cost to deliver the product you have labor shipping R and D and other factors.

Re: Touchstone Value???

It's one thing to make a profit, but this is near price gouging. Sprint stores have always been a complete ripoff when it comes to accessories. This is no different. For less than the price of one Touchstone, I bought two extra chargers, two micro USB cables and still have enough to buy an extended battery when they come out. Of course, I didn't believe the Sprint store nonsense that every cable had to be Palm brand.

The TouchStone is neat, but it takes zero effort to plug in your phone. We've all been doing it for years. Since the battery life on this phone is abysmal, so you have to charge it every chance you get. Are you going to have a Touchstone everywhere including your car? Otherwise you will be plugging it in a lot anyway.

It's a neat gimmick, but they can keep it.
