10:10PM PDT My poor Pre has been struggling to download the new release for about a half hour now. Seems that all half million of them are trying to do the same thing.
Got numerous "unable to connect" complaints after partial downloads, but finally got a good download going. (All via WiFi on my home LAN.)
10:29PM PDT OK, finally got the whole thing, told the Pre to go ahead and install it.
10:40PM PDT Pre just restarted...
10:44PM PDT Up and running on the new release - time to play.
It took a little time to finally make a connection to updates but that was to be expected. I will have to start carrying around a binder with all the directions for all the good stuff Pre can do. If I spent the money for the phone, I want to use each and every possibility. I'm a retired schoolteacher and can't begin to use everything. It's a wonderful toy. I hardly need to have games. If I have down time I just sit and play with all the new stuff. It looks like they are getting closer to bookmarking my audio books. That was a big one. I am waiting for Audible.com and DataViz to come through with Apps and I'll be a happy camper. A MahJong game would also be nice.
. A MahJong game would also be nice.
We can cheat, that is the beauty of WebOS. Until an actual app is available you might try www.apple.com/webapps/games/mahjong.html
Yup most of the WebApps should work with the Pre since it uses the WebKit browser engine like the iPhone and has the same screen resolution. You just have to know the web address of the WebApp.
By the way, this is not a wide customer release; this is effectively a final beta. It's live in public but not a mandatory push.
Y'all wanted beta and first release; enjoy!
"Final Beta" as in "Release Candidate?"
So far, it's working fine for me, and I was glad to be able to get my tweaks turned back on, becasue I missed 'em.
Battery life is doing fine on *my* Pre, even though I am seeing some complaints from others about that.
I like some of the small added features, including the upgrading of the copy/paste utility. Still a little awkward, but at least mugh more useful now - in fact the first thing I did with it was to copy a link from a page in the browser and paste it elsewhere for use.
Still some stuff missing that would be nice to have, but I'm glad to see the constant improvement from Palm.
