Ok, so I got the 8XT. I've been a fan on Windows mobile for a long time, starting with the Jornada. And I've been with Sprint for a long time. It took a while for Sprint to come out with the WP8 but I got it first thing Friday morning. Personally, I feel it is a good quality product but still with a few items that could see some improvement. The biggest problem I'm having is that neither voicemail nor visual voicemail push to the live tile. Which makes it impossible to know if you have voice mail. Turn the phone off, someone calls and leaves a VM, turn the phone on, no notification. I made a workaround. I'm using Visual voicemail with an auto forward to my email and then setting my email to push to the live tile. Problem solved but it should work right. Called Sprint, they couldn't fix it. They told me to go to the Sprint store. Went to the Sprint store, duplicated the problem on the display model of the 8XT. Sprint store I should contact Sprint tech support to let them know. Talked to Sprint tech support and they said I should bring it to the store for diagnosis.
On another forum I posted the question and found one other user with the same problem. It seems to be a bug on the phone. If a Sprint tech is reading this I hope someone will look into it.
Solved! Go to Solution.
How can they not find a problem on the phone? Clearly they must not be testing the Windows Phone...I can see it now "Oh wait...all this time we thought it was the EVO that had the voice mail issue!" Sad thing is it wouldn't surprise me anymore...
I can't believe we still don't have a REAL status update on what they are doing to fix this.
At my local corporate store, both wp8 display devices (8xt and neo) have the same issue... no voicemail notification.
I got the new 'activate your device' update and of course have the latest visual voicemail app... still doesn't work.
A new issue is developing with this device. See Chase mobile app problems elsewhere on this forum.
They can try the 2 phones I had too. Neither HTC8XT would provide voice mail notification.
Sounds like a cover up?
What will Sprint do for us?
(...) Do you have the most up to date version of Visual Voice mail on your device as well? (...)
VVM on my device indicates as version T.220.127.116.11 which is the version available from the Store.
(...) Furthermore, you received the notification that you did have a voice mail, but neither the tile nor the lock screen showed an indicator of how many voice mails you had? Please let me know.(...)
That is correct. Until today, no indicator other than the exclamation mark on the tile was shown, a number never appeared and the lock screen never showed an indicator.
Today I received another call which I could not take and the caller left a voicemail.
I started the VVM app and it downloaded one message, left today, and now both tile and lock screen show the count of '1'.
When I actually dial into VM, it correctly indicates the expected two new messages.
VVM does not show any indication of the previous VM which was left on 10/11.
Please can we just scrap the whole VVM thing, does *anyone* really need this? If it worked, fine, but is worth this aggravation?
Let us just use the functions built into the WP8 OS and toss this VVM failure out to the garbage heap.
I am going to ask for an ativ to try if they will send me one to try.
I don't even get the toast notification any more. My visual voicemail tile does nothing either.
Today I received two voicemails this morning. My phone gave me no indication of voice mail , (No toast notification, no icon and no change in the visual voicemail tile)
After I dialed into voicemail from phone tile and listened to the messages, the visual voicemail tile showed a "!".
This is definitely a problem will all windows 8 phones on Sprint. Not just a few, but all HTC 8XT and Samsung Neo.
I agree DFG, I would like to know how to try and get an ATIV S Neo as well. I'm extremely disappointed in Sprint and Charles for not holding up their end of the deal here. Charles was in here a lot at the beginning, but as it seems that nothing will get done he's backed off this thread and has just used generic answers and non-workable solutions (like updating the "Activate Your Device" application).
For the record I've done EVERYTHING that Charles has asked in this thread and I, like all of you, STILL do not have a fully functioning phone. I only held off on taking this back because of the IMPLIED PROMISE that Charles made that a solution would be out "soon" and that it would be out "before the 14 day window" was up.
I have 1 line up for renewal and another one up for a renewal in 74 days, those two will not be renewing their contracts. I will wait for all of my other lines to be out of contract and then I'll just pay my ETF and we'll look for another carrier. It's a shame that it had to happen, but the complete and utter lack of a resolution is shocking and appalling.
I have read them. I just wanted them to send me the neo to prove it does not work either. So far sprint thinks this is a 8xt problem only, when it is windows phone problem.
unfortunately they will not cancel the order and I have to wait for the refurb 8xt. Then will test.
the sprint rep. Thinks that they have a batch of bad esn's.
So today I tried yet another sprint customer service call for this issue on my Neo. I was hoping to at least get a status update on this issue. I got a very helpful service rep on the call that did the following things:
Temporarily remove voicemail feature from my account, then add it back. (This of course would cause you to lose your voicemail settings and any voicemails you have saved.. wasn't a problem for me and I didn't care).
Reset voicemail, voice, and 4g lte features on my account.
These steps caused my phone to do a network update. The rep then hung up with me (I was using a different phone line) and called my cell to test voicemail. See did two tests and both times it worked as it should. I received voicemail notification immediately (toast notification with sound) and visual voicemail icon was updated with !. I entered visual voicemail and it immediately downloaded the message and played beautifully. I thought for sure my issues were finally fixed. Turns out, it seems that only calls/voicemails from sprint seem to work. After hanging up with sprint, I called my cell from another line and left a voicemail and also had two friends do the same. I wasn't notified on any of those voicemails. I had sprint test again and it worked fine. Very strange that voicemails originating from sprint customer service work but others don't. Extremely disappointing. I had a similar experience the first time I went to my sprint corporate store on this issue. They got it to work a couple of times in store but as soon as I tried it on my own after walking out of the store it didn't work.
Back to square one..... sigh
I also went to the SPRINT store and the rep did a soft reset on my phone (power off and on) and update the network profile. He then called my phone from the store and left a message. Immediately I received the toast notification and the Visual Voicemail icon was updated with !. I tapped on the Visual Voicemail icon and the message was loaded and everything seemed to work fine.
But when I went home and called my cell phone from my home phone and left a message, nothing worked. I did not receive the toast notification and the Visual Voicemail was not updated. So my situation was exaclty the same as MGUENNEWIG's. Very strange that it only worked at SPRINT store but not at anywhere else.
I now believe that this issue is not caused by HTC phone, Microsoft nor Visual Voicemail app. But it is the issue from SPRINT network. It has been three months and we have not heard anything regarding the status of this issue from SPRINT. I don't think SPRINT will ever fix this issue.
