LTE Connectivity HTC Bolt

I want to start off with I do like this phone but the day I turned it on I had an issue with LTE.

I could be in an area getting close to 200 Mbps on speedtest but then try to run it again or go online and I would get "a network error has occurred"  or simply "you are offline" if it was YouTube, either way it lost connectivity but was still showing a solid signal, even sitting in one spot.

I would toggle airplane mode and I was back online, run a speedtest or anything online and was fine for a minute or two, sometimes a little longer but would always end up offline again, then toggle airplane mode and back up online. 

It doesn't matter if I'm on band 25, 26 or 41.

I need to add that my Motorola G5 Plus never had this happen, in the exact area so I'm not buying that its Sprint service..... I messaged HTC today, they told me "this is totally normal, rest assured there's nothing wrong with your device."

I told her I never saw that in the Bolt ads to expect it to work for less than a few minutes where your old phone still works perfectly!  I ended up messaging a supervisor and my next action will be a new Sim card as I don't have an issue with 3g. 

Hopefully...does this sound like it could be a faulty Sim card?

There are a variety of problems that could present these symptoms, often they replace the SIM card first and it does help, please keep me posted here, and send me a private message if you'd like me to take a closer look.

The issue has been getting much worse, in areas that have excellent connectivity I was staying connected usually 1 minute or less, my wife sitting beside me had no issues at all with her phone. I went to the Sprint service center, they changed the preferred network mode to LTE/CDMA and was able to stay connected for the whole time I was there.

20 minutes after, still in Wichita KS where its great service it started doing it again, Toggling airplane mode probably no less than a couple hundred times kept losing connection. I then did a complete wipe and I had to have my wife enable her phones hotspot just so I could sign into Google after restoring the phone as it wouldn't connect to LTE. 

This phone has been a complete nightmare since I turned it on brand new out of the box.......

DONE!!! Ran speedtest, it downloaded at 139Mbps which was great, then went to YouTube and it just sat there, tried speedtest again and network communication error....... Toggled airplane mode and back up working great for a short time. 

I shut the piece of garbage off and had sprint swap me back over to my Motorola G5 Plus.

I guess this post could be useful if it gets resolved to someone in the future...

Spoke to HTC and after exhausting all of the typical "restart your phone" ect. ect. he had me download the Bolt ROM and reinstall. I installed it, swapped the moto back to the Bolt and took it to town but unfortunately it did the same thing so I went to Sprint and had them install a new sim card so this will pretty much be the last thing I try before sending it back to HTC for the 8 week turnaround!

After swapping the sim I had to make a fast dash home and it's always working in my 3g area. This evening I'm going to be back in town so I'll definitely be giving it a hard run as this will be my last attempt at keeping the phone.

Gave it a good workout and had no issues, one more trip with no issues and I'll figure it's healed!

No luck, as the end of winter came and the weather got warmer I realized its overheating and thats causing it to lose connectivity... I have to hold it up to my air conditioner vent to bring the temperature down from around 115 degrees and toggle airplane mode, then it buys me a little time until it happens again. 

I have just checked online and found some that have that exact issue with the Bolt. 

 

Ive been dealing with HTC for a few months, they are hung up on me providing a paper receipt from my Sprint online purchase, every time I send an email proof of purchase they take several days and deny it. 

I have probably contacted HTC by phone more than 10 times and still haven't gotten anywhere yet.

Why on earth did Sprint pass me off to HTC when I received a defective phone from Sprint.com and was in contact with Sprint probably a month after receiving it?

Hello Kijlou1, let's figure this out!

Some heat is perfectly normal, especially when charging or running high-performance apps, though the phone should not become too warm to handle comfortably. Please review the following:

  •  Make sure your phone software and all installed apps are up to date, since updates frequently contain performance improvements and may reduce the phone's temperature.
  • Uninstall any task manager or battery saver apps.
  • Clear all recent apps or reboot the phone to make sure background apps are not causing your phone to warm up.
  • Avoid using live wallpapers or too many Home screen widgets.
  • Use an HTC-branded charger and charging cable. Third-party chargers and cables may not work correctly and could cause your phone to heat up while charging.
  • If the phone gets hot while charging, disconnect it from the charger and close all running apps, then allow the phone to cool before resuming charging.
  • Check your battery history or usage to see if any particular apps are typically running when the phone heats up. If an app is causing issues, uninstall it.

If your phone continues to get uncomfortably warm after confirming all of the above, you may need to factory reset your phone.

As a last resort, you can reset your phone to factory settings. Before you do so, please be aware of the following:

  • A factory reset will erase all data, media, and files from the phone storage. You'll lose them and won't be able to restore them if you didn't sync or back them up before. Make sure you've backed up all important information and files before you proceed.
  • Make sure the phone is charged to at least 35% before performing the reset, or is connected to an HTC charger and is actively charging.
  • Make sure you know your Google Account name and password. You'll need them to unlock your phone after the factory reset.

Steps to perform a factory reset:

  1. Go to Settings, and then tap Backup & reset.
  2. Tap Reset phone or Factory data reset.

    If you have a security lock on the device, you'll need to enter your security information as well.

  3. Tap Reset or OK.

    The phone will reboot and reset.
