I've had my HTC Evo 3D for a week now and the GPS is TERRIBLE. I even use a car dock and it either loses GPS signal completely or it won't give an accurate location. When driving on a road it will jump from one street to a different one a half block away or show the blue arrow still moving through an intersection after I stop at a light. This is unacceptable. This issue MUST be addressed and a fix needs to be put out. What does everyone else think? I know I've seen a lot of other issues with this across the Internet, so I know I'm not alone.
I haven't had any issues with the GPS on my 3D. It works just as well as my 4G did. It finds my location super fast, updates immediately when I don't take the selected route. I've never lost the signal. I don't use a charging doc, I prop up my phone in a cup holder.
Google maps on my 3D even gave more accurate directions than my stand alone Tom Tom.
I'm having the same experience as ccerose1, GPS connects fast and is accurate. I don't want to assume you have a hardware problem but you might want to have the device looked at by one of our service and repair specialists at your local Sprint store. If you would like me to help just with an Employees Helping Customers ticket let me know, would be more than happy assist.
Well anything help would be appreciated. I had the problem again today when I tried using the GPS. I'm thinking that I might have to film it. It's awful. Maybe I'll film in side by side with my Evo 4G since Sprint Employees always try to pretend that the problem is exaggerated or non existant.
Mike- I will send you a private message so we can get an Employees Helping Customers ticket open on your issue. Trust me I wasn't down playing your issue, I simply thought it might be a problem with your device specifically because I've had a poor GPS experience with my Epic 4G but things have been working perfectly with my EVO 3D. I'll send you the private message now so we can get this resolved.
I haven't had this problem either. However, have you tried the included Sprint Nav software and Google maps, just to make sure it isn't a software issue (maybe a corrupt download). If the issue is on both programs, then it's probably a hardware thing.
Mike, you are not alone.
I have the exactly the same issue with not just one Evo 3D but two of them (since its lauch 2 weeks ago) and read reports from other people with the same issue. The GPS will have me jump around different places even when I stay still. Even on my way to a local Sprint store to exchange the first one for this problem, when I stopped at the light, the blue arrow would jump to the middle of the intersection then to the side street and then back and forth to my actual location. The replacement phone has the same issue. I have 2 original Evo 4G and kept comparing 3D to original Evo at multiple locations using multiple apps. On both original Evo 4G, the coordinate does not change when I stay still but EVO 3D keeps changing the coordinate. The GPS signal strengh and # of satellites used were similar. I confirmed it using a GPS Test app as well as Google map and golf GPS. Both versions of EVO lock on pretty quick with similar signal strengh. My coordinate does not change if I am not moving on two original Evo 4G, but on Evo 3D, my coordinate and location keeps jumping around, never staying the same. What I found is that it affects anything that uses the internal GPS, including Goolgle Map, Navigation, golf GPS, app that tracks your jogging paths, etc. Clearing A-GPS data multiple times did not fix it on EVO 3D.
I am aware there is a margin of error with GPS but 2 original Evo 4G without this issue (I had them over a year since their launch day in 2010 and used GPS function all the time) and 2 Evo 3D with the problem. This tells me EVO 3D definitely has an issue with GPS accuracy and stability. The Sprint store employee told me that TeleNav GPS problem was a known issue to Sprint and Sprint was working on the fix (I informed him it affects anything that uses 3D's internal GPS, not just TeleNav). However, according to a Sprint technician, there is no GPS issue being worked on based on the internal forum.
Can someone from Sprint confirm whether this is indeed a known issue and if Sprint is actively working on a fix, and if this is a hardware or software problem? I use GPS all the time and unless this is fixed soon, I would have no choice but to return EVO 3D even though I liked other features of the phone.
I too have started having some "glitches" with the 3d gps. For me its intermittent, sometimes it will be fine but then other times it will show me thousands of feet away. One thing I have noticed though when its wrong it also lists the accuracy about 3000 feet instead of around sixty when its working correctly. I compared my EVO 4g next to the 3d and the 4g was more accurate. My guess is its software because this same thing happened with the EPIC and a M.R. fixed the problem.
Yes. Your issue is dead on to what is happening to me. It's frustrating that they don't recognize it as an issue either. They'll tell you it's something else and even if you show them, they'll still tell you that it's not a problem.
(When i say "them", I'm refering to Sprint Employees)
If people are having problems with the GPS they should report it even though its a pain to listen to someone tell you what your experiencing is not happening. There have been several phones with this glitch at launch and they were always fixed with an update. It took a lot of complaining but they finally addressed the EPIC"s GPS problems.
I agree. These problems NEED to be reported to Sprint. I'm in the process right now of getting this problem resolved. The more people that come forward with the problem, the quicker this will get solved.
