I just got my new EVO 4G LTE and I have I might have a bone to pick. The specs shown on Sprint says it has 16GB on the phone, but when they activated mine it only showed 9.93GB on it. So is this how it's supposed to be with all the programs on it and if so why do they say you will have 16GB of storage; it seems to be a little misleading. Can someone explain?
In computer-eze (see links), a 16 GB drive really only has about 14.9 GB of unformatted memory. Read about that in the link below, see the section "Units of storage capacity".
See also section "Inconsistent use of units", below:
The phone comes preloaded with system and application software in memory. Think of the 16 GB of storage the same way you would of a hard disk drive (HDD) for a computer. Manufacturer's advertise HDD size as an empty and unformatted drive, not as what's free after installing system software and programs.
I use a 16 GB iPhone 4S, but as I remember it came with about 11.6 GB free.
Related...I don't know anything about the SD cards. The EVO takes a 32gb SDHC. Are those all the same? I see widely varying prices adverstised. What should I be looking for?
For you new EVO 4G LTE I would recommend a SanDisk 32 GB Class 4 or better for the phone. I went with a SanDisk32GB SDHC Class 10 UHS-1 and found it for a very reasonable price on ebay AND IT'S REAL NOT A CHEAP COPY. http://www.ebay.com/itm/130686021221?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 It works great and is quick.
Thanks seeblue1 for your answer. I guess I'm just disappointed that it too so much of the drive's space. Is there a way to delete unwanted programs or apps on my phone?
