While messaging, Evo won't attach photos from gallery

When I am texting and want to send a photo from my gallery, I click the attach icon and select my gallery and then what ever photo I want to send and then I get taken back to messaging with no attachment; as if I never tried to send an photo attachment.  I called and talked to HTC but they were no help, they had me to a soft reset and empty my cashe and delete my text history.  None of that helped.  I really don't want to do a factory reset if I don't have to.  Any ideas?

this is actually the first i have heard of this in here. try one more thing. not sure if they had you go into settings-applications-all applications-messaging app and clear its data..power cycle the phone and try again..if THIS doesnt work download a 3rd party messaging app like handcent and try it with that..if it works with the 3rd party app but not the stock one then its a problem with the stock messaging app itself.

I believe there is a block on attaching porn to MMS messages.

J/K, seriously though, this is the first I've heard of this as well. Try the following,

  • Messages > Menu > Settings > Multimedia Messages > Maximum Message Size

Make sure your set to 1mb. SHould be by default, but maybe it's preventing you attaching the image because it's too large.

Then also try other images that you know are a smaller K size, see if the problem exists on those as well.

i wonder if it has anything to do with the panoramic pics? possibly making them to large to send? i would imagine it would still put the pic there..then give you a notification that it was to large to send.

I believe by default, even an abnormally large picture would still be reduced down to the point it can be sent. Any picture taken wit hthe phone itself will definitely be scaled by default. But there's also the possibility that it's related to the bug I was talking about in a previous thread where MMS messages aren't following the Maximum Message Size rule itself. And the picture the OP is sending isn't being reduced do to the size.

Hey OP, how big is the filesize of this picture your trying to attach?

which should be able to work around by using a 3rd party messaging app...at least i would think so..

not to mention the stock messaging app is no where as cool as handcent..especially since they added the "doodle" ability...nothing says "hey how yuh doing?" like trying to send it to someone as a drawn out picture lol..or taking a pic of someone and then adding a mustache and eye patch..

FYI for those that might try out handcent and the doodle ability..it MAY seem funny to take a pic of your significant other and then black out some teeth...add a black eye..draw some odd hat on their head..and whatever other thing you might think up...its a safe bet you will end up with the same ending as i did...a glare and silence for about 3 hours..

so i HIGHLY recommend it lol

My issue regarding not being able to send attachment photos via messaging is still unresolved.  I now have a 3rd party SMS messaging app (Handcent) and it can send photos perfectly from my phones gallery; why I can't do that from the built-in messaging app apparently baffles not only myself but the tech department at HTC as well, the only difference is I want this fixed.  I do not want to have to use a 3rd party SMS app to send photos from Messaging, I shouldn't have to... plain and simple.  I was one of the first Sprint customers who bought the original HTC Evo 4g and never had anything but good times with my phone; when I first saw the TV commercial introducing the new Evo 4g lte, my heart started racing, I was so jazzed!  This may seem only a  small inconvience to some but my fear, is this just the start of more bad to come?   I have always loved the Evo line and HTC, I thought who needs Apple I got HTC!... was I wrong?  Just a frustrated HTC user right now.

ejhaney,

Thank you for your post regarding the inability to send pictures as an attachment. I wanted to ask a few questions. When using the stock application, what error message do you receive if any? I am using a test device here and I am able to send it successfully to other phones. Can you walk me through the steps you are taking? I want to see if the error occurs within one of those steps.

Hi Markie_B

When I am texting from the stock application and want to send a photo, I click on the attach icon and from there select the gallery and then pick what picture I want, then after I select the photo, I get taken back messaging but with no photo attached.  I receive no error message at all.  When I use Handcent I have no problems sending a photo attachment.  Funny thing is if I go into the gallery and select a photo to share and choose 'Messages' it will attach the photo that way, but not if I start from messaging first.  Drives me nuts!

ejhaney,

That is a frustrating situation. Have you tried to clear the cache for that messaging application?

Settings>Apps> All>Messages>Clear Data>Clear Cache (if available to select)

You can also try powercycling as well to see if that will restore your stock messaging features. If all else fails, I am sorry but a hard reset maybe in order. Unless you are happy with the Handcent application.

Since I cannot remove the battery I can only power it off and leave it that way for 10 minutes or so.  But yes I have done that as well as clearing the cashe.  For now I wll stick with Handcent.  Things could be worse.
