Help a n00b with some EVO questions:

Hi Guys and Gals -

I need some help.  I am signed up to get the EVO on release day.  This is my first smart phone so I am kind of excited.  However, there are some questions that I have looking for an answer to, but have not found.  I'm sure its out there, I am just not sure where to check.  If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

1) Where can you see if you are in the 4G coverage area?

2) What is the basic plan (cost per month and what does it include!) plus any options available (per month)?

3) What is the hotspot option for $30/month?  Why would it be advantageous (or not) for me to get this?

4) Does the phone take a new charger (car or wall) adapter or an existing one?

I know these are pretty basic questions, so thanks for any help

Re: Help a n00b with some EVO questions:

1) Goto http://coverage.sprint.com/IMPACT.jsp and click on Data, Email, and Multimedia then click on Sprint Devices with 4G

2) Goto http://sprint.com and goto Shop -> Plans. You will need an Everything Data plan

3) The press release covers that info: http://newsreleases.sprint.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=127149&p=irol-newsArticle_newsroom&ID=1426178

As for you to get it, that is dependent on your personal situation.

4) A micro-USB charger should work

You cna check your coverage at this location, http://shop.sprint.com/en/stores/popups/4G_coverage_popup.shtml

The basic plan is $69.00 + $10 for 4G access. The $10 is mandatory whether you have access to the 4G network or not.

The hotspot option allows you to tether your phone to up to 8 devices, laptop, camera, ipod, etc.. This allows your devices access to the internet using the phones data connection rather then having to connect to your home computer.

A little over a year ago, the various mobile companies standardized on the Micro USB port. This new Micro USB port was available on maybe half a dozen phones available in the US market at the time. The phone will come with a USB data cable and wall charger but not a car charger. Chances are very slim that any of the USB cables from your existing phone will work.

In the following image, the one on the left is the USB plug most people are familiar with. The one on the right is the new one that the Mobile industry adopted as the standard.

The good news is, that they make an adaptor. But my opinion, goto Radio Shack or Amazon.com and by an iGo adaptor (image below) with the purchase you get a free iGo tip of your choice. Then all you have to do is by a new tip if you get a different device down the road. They also make a wall unit as well for inside your house that use the same Tips.

Keep in mind, like you, I am a Sprint subscriber. I am in no way employed by Sprint in any sense. I just know stuff.
