Rumor or truth about the evo?

Ok,Ok , Ok !!!!! Call me a  geek what ever buT I am excited about the sprint evo .Recently , I came on here and ask a Sprint Specialist when will they update my hero to 2.1  -  which I just did today -- and when is the evo coming out. The sprint specialist told me its coming out in mid April and I SAID ARE YOU SURE AND HE SAID YES . OMG I do not know if this is true or not but I got the news right here from the horse's mouth. So my point is if the phone is coming out in mid April why arent there any advertisments ; I guess it does not matter because  I had my HERO FOR A MONTH or two before they started to advertise the phone . So fingers cross hoping this news is true....

To answer your guess question I am not a professional . I am depending on those that work for sprint to give me accurate information. Now I TALKED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE LIKE ANYONE CAN DO . and the guy took step by step to update my phone to 2.1 . Nothing really happen  ; he also informed me 2.1 supposed to be updated tommorrow...... APRIL 9th so call and find out.

Also like I said it took sprint a month  or so to even put commericals out for sprint Hero .

Does the EVO have built in memory for app storage and will it get OTA updates from Google?

If not......worry:

http://now.sprint.com/evo/?ECID=vanity:evo

and suppose to have OTA updates. Think of the evo as the big brother of the incredible better camera better screen and just over all better since its on sprint.

Journeyman

I didnt see where they said it will have 8GB of internal storage for apps in addition to the SD card like the Desire/Incredible nor did it mention OTA updates from Google. Is this all the info we have at this time or are there any sites that give a few more details?

Journeyman

so far rumors say 8gb and it will be ota arent all 2.1 phones in theory gonna be ota? I am still not 100% sold on this phone though so many other phones coming this summer I may have totake advantage of the new 30 day policy.

Journeyman

well, in theory all standard Android builds should be capable of getting OTA from Google, which is why I bought my Moment, but we see where that stands currently

Not sure how the Incredible is going to get them with Sense installed though. But it does indicate that as a feature on the leaked specs--assuming they're accurate. Most the new Android phones coming out are from HTC. However, I still would not put it past the other carriers to try to 1up Sprint and release something that, although doesnt have 4G, has some extremely compelling features and Sprint is once again left out of the spotlight. That would be a disaster considering the amount of attention they are placing on the EVO and 4G.

Journeyman

tier 2 tech on sprint swears it will be OTA for the moment and unlike tier 1 they actaully know the diffrences in phones and o/s's lol I just worry that sprint is gonna spoil us by giving us tons of great phoens for once then next year we will get nothing but 2 or 3 good release and garbage all year

Journeyman

I think if anything, you will see the number of smartphones increase at every carrier. They are selling way more smartphones than any other type of device currently. That could lead to exclusive deals to separate one company from the next. Sprint needs to build some momentum in order to get more exclusive deals by then. But I also think the shear volume of good phones will give customers plenty to consider when buying a new phone in the next few years.

Journeyman

yea every spec sheet i see on the incredible says 8gb but we shall see . i think it does though . i mean that's not uncommon . it's fairly new for android phones . but yea ajac it is little bro to evo . but only the sense and the 8pixel cam match up between the two . oh and the processor of course . but screen and 4G adcantages and front facing cam etc is what makes it differ and yea its on sprint hahaa good point .

Hey everyone! We've been at a tourny in PA and i haven't had internet for a few days, it made me feel kinda lonely haha.  I met with Dan this weekend and he filled me in. The phone will not be available online for a while. I know you can by it at your sprint sore and that you will be able to reserve one via telesales, i dont know about directly buying it.  8gb internal memory. Hello Android market place much?!  Ohh and all the info coming out for the incredible has been fake. If you look at the info sent in you will see what i mean- 8gb internal memory but only 512 ROM. They are the same thing so yeah... haha  The device will be released "MOST LARGELY" to the public on the 13th. I was hinted, not directly told that there was some way you can get the phone on the 6th. Dan didn't know how either but hey, if you can find out go for it.  The price of the phone will be more around $250. Government and large companies have there own round about of ordering so it wont affect the general publics sales.  Now there are some interesting things regarding if you live in a 4G market or not. There are two options being debated i have been told. If you do live in a 4G market, (and i am not sure how exactly sprint plans around going about this) you may be charged an extra fee to use 4G, and there will be a different plan for you, as compared to if you do not currently live in a 4G market you will not be charged and if you magically pick up a signal then tell me how you got it =]. The second option is what makes sense to me. There will be no charge to ONLY use the phone on 4G. However if you use it as a hot spot it will cost $10 or $15 per month.  Hope that helped and Ill keep ya posted  Jackson __________________ ~Jackson
yeah they won't sell it online for probably a little more than a month after it is released in stores. They did the same thing with the Pre and Hero. It's the whole supply and demand thing i guess.  Yeah i think it would be the wrong decision for Sprint. they will get more subscribers this way and then have them in a few years when then new 4G plan is created and cdma is out the window like i talked about before.  Paper phone.... i think we like the evo huh?  Jackson

Here is the last post from wjackson. Enjoy!

in resposne to the last part got a hero was live the day it was released it was backordered but you could order it online and the pre part I had the option last year for pre via tele sales online or in store the only reason we choose in store was becasue no waiting. Beyond that I have a feeling i know how to get it on the 6th cough cant wait to try it lol either way  wjackson shoudl speak for himself since he is still on the forum ( and I know this becasue he messaged me earlier) hopefully he brings this info to us intead of travis sorry dont hate but prefer to hear it from wjackson.

Yeah I saw you(ajac) at AF.com

I only post his comments here because I know other people miss his information. Just passing the info along for the rest of the Sprint Community. Or you guys can join http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/54768-official-htc-evo-4g-wimax-thread-48.html like ajac did.

Journeyman

I would assume premier customer's would be able to pre order it on the 6th, like the pre and touch pro2.
