Cannot send emails from Hero

I set up my phone to finally connect with my work email with the Exchange ActiveSync option in the mail app.  I had to remove the "https://" from server address and enable the SSL option to get it working.  The problem I am having now, is that I cannot send an email with that account.  New mail I create just stays in the Outbox and never gets sent? My incoming email works, so I'm not sure why the outgoing mail isn't.

Re: Cannot send emails from Hero

Allthough I have not done anything with Exchange on a phone, email systems in general are set to not allow email to be sent "by anyone" without authenticating.  The reason is that spammers would then use every "open relay" they can fine (and there are hundreds of thousands of them out there already) to send spam and viruses through.  Generally you either must "authenticate" with the email server (It is seperate from the authentication used to get your mail) or in the case of sending form "in house" it uses your internal IP address to verify that you have permission to send.

Since your exchange server at work is apparently not set up at a very competent level (No https for encrypting the stream) it stands to reason that something else is not quite tweaked the way it should be.

Re: Cannot send emails from Hero

My work OutlookWebAccess does use https, but my Hero won't accept it when I add that to the server name.  My Instinct had no problems sending emails with my OWA web address for the server name. Should the htttps be part of the server name in order to send emails from the phone?

Re: Cannot send emails from Hero

Many corporate Exchange Server implementations require mobile clients (like Google Sync) to utilize an encripted PIN#  in order for Exchange to accept the mail you want it to send.  It appears that Google Sync doesn't support a PIN# yet so every email you try to send ends up just sitting in the outbox, unsent.

I solved this problem by downloading a product called TouchDown from the Android Marketplace.  It only costs $10 and works great.  I'm now using it instead of the Mail program that came with the Hero. You can read more about it at the company's website, www.nitrodesk.com
