SD Card Question

SD Card Question

Just purchased my Hero and I am very happy.  Only minor issue.......Sprint needs to work on the ability to close running programs without  a soft reboot...  My prior touch had that capibility.

Question-is there a way to hide a file that can be stored in my hero other than the "albums" offering.  It is a video file.

Re: SD Card Question

That's what task killer apps are for, but you need to be careful with those as killing critical apps can screw things up.

As for the hiding...porn perhaps? J/k (not really) but anyways, if you're tryin to prevent it from showing up in the Albums app, download a file manager like Astro, or Linda, and create a folder starting with a period (.foldername) and it place the video in that folder and it shouldn't show up in the gallery.

Re: SD Card Question

Thanks AJ,

Good idea with the porn.  I did download Astro and was not able to open the file in that location.  It reads "file type WMV not found."  Any suggestions.

Great evening

You seem to be under the impression that Sprint built the OS. Not the case, if anyone needs to be doing the work on the OS, its Google.

Many of the apps I have seen can either be backed out of  using the back button, or menu to close them. I frequently use the back button on most apps. Maybe thats why I dont suffer from the lag others have reported about.

Re: SD Card Question

Tried it on  a few files and it did not work.  If you hold the home key down you can still see the programs running-thanks for the reply! Good info on the OS!

If I understand correctly when you hold the home key it doesn't show what is open...but rather just the last 6 apps that you used, running or not.

Re: SD Card Question

Ok I tried it myself and I see the same thing. Video shows up in albums, but you can't play it.

Another solution (works, I tried it):

1.       On your computer, open Notepad or any other text editor

2.       Save the blank file as “.nomedia”
Make sure that the Save as type is set as “All Files” instead of “Text documents”

3.       Copy that file to the folder on your SD card containing audio files you don’t want to show up.
(Example: If you want to block CoPilot sound files from coming up, place the .nomedia file in the sdcard/copilot folder)

4.       Reboot your phone and the files should no longer be viewable

I actually just used a file manager and copied one of the .nomedia files from a folder an app stored on the sdcard. Reason being I could not save the file in "All Files" format because I'm on Mac. I put a video file in a test folder called hide, opened gallery, and the video showed up. Put the .nomedia file in, opened gallery, and it didn't show up. Didn't even reboot. Only way to play the file is open it through the file manager. And if you want the folder to be hidden, start the filename with a period (.hiddenfolder) and use a file manager that doesn't display hidden files and folders by default, like Linda. I normally used OI File Manager but I couldn't open any video files from it and it shows all hidden files by default and you can't change it. So now I'm using Linda.

Its not a report of whats running, its a report of the last 6 tasks launched

Re: SD Card Question

Correct-I was informed from another reply that these are only the last few apps that I used.  Not actually running-thanks for helping out!

Tethering

AJ,

Is there a simple approach to tethering for the hero.  Any help is appreciated.  I have it connected with the "mobile network" and my computer is not recognize or I did not know how to find it.  Do I need to add another program to my PC for it to work?
