Re: Optimus G Jelly Bean

SuperWilliamD... Will JB be announce on a thread supporting a PREVIOUS update?  That doesn't make sense.

Also.  JB is close to being unofficially running on the phone anyway.

Gotta love independent developers.  They're better at updating the software on these phones than the carriers/manufacturers are!  We probably won't see it from Sprint until AT LEAST mid-March or so.

It's a little disappointing. One had expectations that with the new partnering, LG would turn a page and release timely updates. I had JB [hacked] on my previous phone and was a bit happy, thinking I would get it on this without [temporarily] losing features till independent developers fix them.

LG disappoints with no software updates and Sprint with the non-commital behaviour.

What features did you "lose" moving to the Optimus G?  As I understand it, the only two real features Android 4.1 adds over 4.0 are a) the Google "butter project" to make the interface less laggy and b) Google Now.

Moreover, the LG piece of the coming upgrade adds more than you probably had on your previous phone, as explained in this official LG video:

Re: Optimus G Jelly Bean

Billish,

My problem was not moving to LGOG. It was the lack of a firm timeline of upgrades.

As of today parts of US are getting JB from LG/Sprint. However, we are pretty much the last as rest of the world has already got it.

This indicates that the update is held back at the carrier end and not the manufacturer end.

Even today, I haven't seen the slightest update from Spring regarding the same.

Also, the features are indeed significant. Project butter makes phones with lesser hardware seem as smooth as the current ICS LGOG GUI [not gaming]. Google Now is a brilliant assistant for simple tasks and automated updates.

Also, the upcoming upgrade that you point out is the JB upgrade and not a patch/feature add-on to ICS. As such, this is what everyone is excited for and many bought the LGOG for, in the first place.
