LG G7 Thinq - no Android 9 (Pie) update

So Sprint is now changing its tune on this issue, yet *again*. For the past year, the excuse has been "it's LG's fault", even though this phone has been updated to Android 9 on other carriers.

Now, according to Sprint tech support, the excuse is that the Sprint  LG G7 Thinq phones will not get Android 9 until Sprint makes 5G LTE available. What??

It would be really nice to get an honest answer about this, since we are still running Android 8.0 on these flagship phones and Android 10 has already been released.

Who cares what they think? They should have explained the situation a year ago, when Sprint LG G7 Thinq owners first started asking questions.

i wouldnt go that far with it. carriers are usually limited to what they can or can not say when it comes to things on the manufacturers side..updates...the dates they might or might not roll out..etc.

Looks like sprint was right it is a LG holding off from doing the update.

Thats why it we didn't get it until they were ready to release VoLTE calling. Definitely LG was holding off releasing it to us for that.

Wonder how stupid sprint thinks we are

Ummmm...I did.  I'm all over this site saying that.  I got pulled into the office by legal for posting that publicly.

Got me some Pie (the whole update, actually) yesterday. Loving it! VoLTE wasn't enabled by default. I enabled it and have the logo up next to my notch.

@Em_Will_I_Am I am sorry you got in trouble but, I for one appreciate all that you do for us. I have had a great experience with the update so far and understand that there were issues getting it out. I was a little disappointed that it took so long but at least you guys kept giving us security updates in the meantime.

I got it Saturday morning when I woke up, it took awhile to download and install. All's been good so far. I had to manually enable VoLTE also, even though I had the LTE calling feature turned on in Calling Plus. It gave an error the first time I tried but gave it a minute and tried again.

No major issues for me - although I've noticed it occasionally takes a bit longer for apps to open. But that's minor.

Thanks!  I'm pretty much on a first-name basis with legal.  I try to be as transparent as possible.  Although I am a Sprint employee, I am also a customer.

more than likely they will need to be updated as well to match up with 8.0

My g7 is stuck in 3g. Can not connect to lte anywhere. Very aggravating and dissapointing yet another reason to drop this crappy network

Try doing a carrier network reset by using ##72786#. This has been mentioned on the r/lgg7 subreddit as fixing the issue. This does NOT remove any of your saved data it just resets the carrier settings it should cause your phone to reboot and then run the activation again updating the PRL and profile. It may re-enable any carrier installed apps that you may have disabled.
